To really characterize a hero, some traits that are necessary would be bravery and selflessness. A hero is someone who willingly fights for a cause or the greater good that may not directly affect them yet works to a better situation.

Heroes are willing to face danger sacrificing their lives for others. Heroism is not just demonstrated by being kind but being brave and courageous and willing to make a change, not worried about what could happen if the challenge is faced. Heroes are courageous and never doubt themselves.

According to the Merriam-Webster, the word ‘hero’ is defined as “A person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities” or “A person who is greatly admired”. When I read the definitions, the two people that seemed to pop up in my head were my Mother and Father. They may not be the type of hero Batman is or maybe even Ulysses, but they’re their own kind of hero. They’re MY heroes. They may not have superpowers or save the world from villains as your typical ‘hero’ would but instead have helped and supported me my whole life through thick and thin, which is more important to me than anything else.

A Hero is someone who puts the needs of others before their own needs. Nanny sacrificed things she needed in order to provide for her seven children, her grandchild, and her husband. There would be times that Nanny wouldn't eat ensuring everyone went to bed full. My mother was sent to Nanny's house and Nanny took my mom in when she didn't have to.
