What is and how does one gain a sense of self-worth? Self-worth can be defined differently by each individual. To me self-worth is defined simply as a persons feeling of worthiness to live or be accepted by others. Out of all the people and events I've been associated with during my lifetime, I would have to say the one person that sticks out to me would be my wife. My wife gives me a sense of self worth because the story of her past, her ability to accept others as they are, and her ability to forgive those others.
First, The story of my wife's past is enough to make anyone feel worthy of living. When she was eighteen years of age, she met a guy from the internet that talked her into running away and getting married. Their marriage lasted a little over eight years and contained much mental, physical, and emotional abuse. Her ex-husband on many occasions would refuse to let her speak with or see her family for extended periods of time, would refuse to let her eat adequate amounts of food, or would just physically abuse her. As I reflect back on these events she has encountered, I realize my problems were very minor compared to what she has been exposed to in life.

She has completely forgiven and can be around her ex-husband when we exchange the kids for his monthly visits and be cordial to him. Me on the other hand I am cordial only because he has s got my kids for the weekend. My wife's ex-husband is not the only person who has done her wrong in the past; my wife and I have also been through a lot due to me making mistakes in the past that I have needed forgiveness for also. Even though during the past year I have lied, cheated, and been arrested, all of which would be enough to break anyone's trust, she has completely forgiven me for all of it. Forgiveness is something Christians should not have an issue with , however some of us still
Can self-esteem really engender success, or does it induce the well-being of individuals? By success, I mean academic achievement and a college degree. Self-esteem is crucial to the well-being and happiness of individuals. However, too much self-esteem makes people become narcissistic, which is destructive and superfluous to becoming successful. Therefore, self-esteem cannot engender success, which is corroborated with the self-esteem movement, but it can cause the well-being of individuals.
An individual may use this description of themselves to assess the value of the self. This is considered to be a person's "self-esteem," or the way in which an individual views their worth. A
Self-Concept is the perception we have of our skills, abilities and personality traits. The way we are to perceive ourselves and the way those around us perceive us, makes our persona, but these perceptions of ourselves continuously change throughout our lives. From a very early age we start growing an identity and traits that are periodically shaped by experiences. Although I have only lived for 20 years, I have learned a lot from past experiences, experiences involving those that surround me, good and bad.

Self-assessments are usually hard for people to do because most of us don’t know much about ourselves. It is difficult for me to see my strengths because I typically only see my weaknesses. I had to start this assignment with an outline listing three strengths and three weakness to begin writing. In writing this paper I have learned a lot about my qualities that will help and/or hurt me in my college career.
Lying outside with ten other people, staring into space while grass stained our backs green, and the humid air clung to our skin, my muscles unclenched and I finally felt comfortable. The conversation slowly spiraled deeper, as we told each other stories we've buried deep inside us for too long. Within the group, four continents and six nationalities were represented. The once obvious cultural gap separating us had been broken down, leading to this moment when we talked so openly. The diversity I experienced this summer greatly affected my self-worth, and turned my hope to make a positive impact in the world into my life goal.
Middle school had to be the worst time of my life. In middle school, my self-esteem took a turn for the worst. In elementary school I was very confident, but around fifth grade and sixth grade things changed. I gained weight, so I was not as thin as I used to be and sixth grade was also the first time someone told me that I was “too dark.” My parents are of darker complexion and they have always taught me to love my skin, but at that point in life I wanted acceptance from my peers. When people began teasing me about my complexion it hurt me and it hurt even more that it came from my own people (African-Americans). I eventually began to hate my skin and myself.

Personal success is something many strive for. For myself, personal success consists of being financially stable, content of my everyday routine, always seeking greater opportunities, and being able to travel the world to experience different environments. In my eyes, personal success is something that others will admire you for. If others are talking about my success, that is something to be proud of. Many of these points stem from the career I decide to pursue. A career is the foundation for personal success, it is where unlimited time is spent. Moreover, two career choices have always been of interest to me, those being: accounting and clinical psychology, and both for different reasons. They are each very different career choices and have with their own benefits. Overall, the decision was easy when it came down to what I wanted out of a profession. With personal success in mind,
By taking the “Self-esteem Inventory” quiz I learned that my sell-esteem is good for the most part, but could use a boost in certain areas. For example, when answering the question “I can make up my mind without too much trouble” I realized this was not like me. More often then not I find myself being indecisive and contemplating choices. This is one thing I could work on to boost my self-esteem. Honestly answering the questions of the quiz made me realize what needs to be changed to improve my overall self-esteem.
A sense of self is a general conscious awareness of your own identity. I have come to understand the term as it is what defines me and makes me one of a kind. It could be a certain look, attitude or personality trait. It could also be the way I view a certain person, thing or subject. My sense of self could even be my purpose in life, perhaps? If it is, then I would say that my sense of self is something that has changed over time and will continue to develop as I get older and my life is influenced by events, places and people. Developing my sense of self is key to living a satisfying and healthy life.
