In addition, Singer comes off to forceful and demanding by telling his readers what they should do. For example, when singer says “I trust that many readers will reach for the phone and donate that $200. Perhaps you should do it before reading further” (Singer). Since he uses such a passionate and commanding tone, it is dicey if Singer is effective at selling his readers

Good morning choir members, I pray all is well with each of you. As each of you know, Sister Kimberly Edwards decided it was best to step down as President of the Liberty Hill Choir. The church administrators set standards in which the next president must already achieve or have before he/she could become president of the choir. Some of those standards include:
Dee Henderson knew from an early age that she wanted to be a writer, but she was afraid to jump right into the profession because she was afraid that she would not make enough money. She decided to go college to become an engineer and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science (Toliver). This allowed her to work and have a steady income while she worked on creating stories and making a work good enough to publish. In 1997 she published her first book, The Marriage Wish (“Dee Henderson Books”). This book was a Christian romance novel that was about 250 pages long. She has since grown in her writing both in terms of the size and quality of her books.

It is currently 2:23 p.m. four hours before the birthday party was supposed to begin. I march back and forth between isles of the Indigo teen section, briefly scanning each of the shelves before moving on to the next. I’m looking for the perfect book to gift to my friend and it’s exhausting. After looking through multiple dystopian fantasies and lite reads about star crossed lovers with chronic diseases, a pastel yellow book caught my eye. It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. The name was familiar, it was a movie with Zach Galifianakis and an actress that used to be relevant in 2005. I never saw it, however I was sure I saw a gif on Tumblr about it. I ended up buying the book and making a mental
Sharon M. Draper is a well-known author that started her career as an English teacher. Her writing career began after she entered and won a short story essay contest for a magazine. This led her to write her first book Tears of a Tiger, followed by Forged by Fire and Darkness Before Dawn. All three books have been very successful and in 1998 Tears of a Tiger received the Coretta Scott King Award. Draper also received the National Teacher of the Year Award for 1997-1998. She said that her main goal in writing has always been to inspire and encourage her students. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that most of her books are aimed towards high school teens. Draper’s writing style has been very controversial, which is the reason her first book was rejected by so many publishers. According to Draper, she sent copies of Tears of a Tiger to 25 different publishing companies and received 24 rejections. The only “yes” that she got was from Simon & Schuster. She said “the editors told me just to write the story, but I said kids don’t need all of that. They don’t need long narrative passages”. Some called her books profound, but she said,” she writes like that because it teaches multiple lessons that are good for the students to learn and for teachers to teach.”

During the course of a person’s life, a decision is made as to which direction their life should follow. Most people are encouraged by their loved ones to make this choice for themselves. When Kelly Cherry was twelve, she announced to her musically devoted, string quartet violinist parents that she was going to quit piano lessons and become a writer, in response, “[her] mother said that she would rather kill [her] than have [her] turn out like [her] big brother, a beatnik. She ran to the kitchen to get [a] butcher knife” (“Kelly Cherry”). Needless to say, she was not supported in this career path. Throughout the course of her early writing career, she would hear that she “had no talent for writing” (“Kelly Cherry”). Still, she continued to write, occasionally quitting again and again, like a smoker, only to pick it up again (“Kelly Cherry”). Continually she told herself, “You are not a writer” until one day she revised this to, “If you don’t write your books, no one else will” (“Kelly Cherry”).
