It took me at least 5 minutes to form this simple first sentence. I could not think of a creative way to start my essay. Every time I wanted to think quietly, my mind drifted away. Why? Unfortunately, I am suffering from a common disease known as “senioritis.”
When I was a freshman, I never came late to my first class. Nowadays, I wake up at 7 A.M, if it is one of my luckiest days. I have to admit that I have become extremely lazy after being accepted to a university. If somebody were to open my attendance, the first word that will catch their eyes probably would be “tardy.” Yes, senioritis has hit me hard like most of the other seniors.
Senioritis is one of the ongoing issues high school students are always warned about. But, to what extent is the warning meaningful to us? In my opinion, I never thought of senioritis as a common disease that has the power to contaminate the upperclassmen. When I was an underclassman, I always heard seniors complaining about teachers giving them so much homework and procrastinating every single second. At one point, I would be annoyed by their complaints. I didn’t believe that senioritis was real until now, as I’m constantly thinking about when I will go home and continuously slacking on my schoolwork. Many seniors, like me who have developed

According to College Board, every year, colleges rescind offers of admission, put students on academic probation or later financial aid package as a result of “senioritis.” Colleges may also reserve the right to deny admission to accepted applicants if the student's senior-year grades drop. Colleges expect seniors to maintain the previous level of academic success. As a result, they look at both a midyear report and a final transcript. Seniors who are suffering from senioritis have a high chance of losing their spot at their accepted college if they do not learn to deal with
This category is primarily characterized by students who are struggling with time management, and therefore, are constantly having difficulty getting to class on time. Despite the fact that they may be occasionally tardy, these students often have excellent attendance and show a willingness to learn. Unlike the high school students, it appears that these students show less of a concern with social interaction and are more concerned with getting to and from their classes.
I wish to be a member of the National Junior Honor (community of people/all good people in the world) because to be a member of this famous/respected organization means so much to mejust to be invited to be one of its members. I would love to be a member of this (community of people/all good people in the world) because all of my life I have lived by a standard of nothingless than the best and I think by being in this organization it will continue my trip of excellence. All of the activities I have ever participated in I have not done for recognition or praise, the gradesI have received I have not done for recognition. I have just done it because I believe that successcomes before work only in the dictionary. The places I am trying to go and
I think I should be in the Junior Honor Society. I have met the requirements to receive this opportunity. I would not let this opportunity to waste. I care for the community and do what ever service to help it out. I help do services for the library when they need it. For example on March 10,2017, I helped make capes for sick kids and then gave them happy birthday cards for the birthday kids. I help out my community by helping people shovel their driveway. Like some of my neighbors can't do it so I ask if I can do it for them for free. I look out for people to make sure they are ok. I am a captain of a football team because of my great leadership skills that can be useful. I put effort and time into my work. Around the house I am a role model
Have you ever wondered who was behind the calls made to the state, regarding certain things like Medicare, or benefits and many other things like that? Although many people lose patience quickly when things do not go their way, they do not understand that these telephone workers are doing the most they can to help. In fact, these case workers go through many trainings and require special education to be able to do the things they do for their clients.
Nurses are dependent on by people, because everyone in life needs medication. I chose to do my Senior Capstone Project over becoming a Nurse, because I feel I am the right candidate. Throughout this research paper I would like to introduce many circumstances a Nurse has to go through, and steps it takes to get to where these life changing leaders are today.
As a program coordinator for the Southern California College Advising Corps (SCCAC), a college access program that missions itself on improving college outcomes for low-income, first- generation, and underrepresented students, one of the biggest hurdles I have seen through my staff members has been combatting motivation levels during the second semester of a high school student’s senior year. Overseeing the Long Beach district, every single one of the SCCAC advisors has experienced this phenomenon, especially during the spring semester. For most students at the Long Beach high schools, they gain a sense of ‘senioritis’ after having completed their college and financial aid applications. Though the term is not talked in much detail in academic research, ‘senioritis’ is a term the advisors have been hearing from their students more frequently. Senioritis is simply the lack of motivation or performance that high school seniors face as it gets closer to their possible graduation, (Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary, 2017).
I am a senior with two years till graduation, but you may ask yourself, “Why does a senior need two more years? How could they be considered a senior in this scenario?” I am glad you asked. I have enough credits from previous colleges to be labeled as a senior but the requirements for my career change have left me with more than a few holes to fill in my degree audit thus making me a perpetual senior. My degree is in biology and chemistry with a minor in math, but I began as a mechanic. I began working on automobiles in my hometown of Minneapolis, receiving a degree from Hennepin tech and landing in New Jersey fixing jets for the military. The life of a mechanic is not a glorious one. It is long, hard, dirty, and painful on the good days, but when you add military regulations into the mix it becomes unbearable.
“I hate school. I just do not feel like it matter.” This quote best explains the daily struggle of seniors in high school. As seniors approach their final days of school, a mere nine days of school left and fifteen days until graduation, finishing out anything with any amount of effort seems impossible. This plaguing struggle affecting all seniors in high school and college is senioritis, but is senioritis a real disease?
Math has and never will be my favorite subject. I have never been one to purposely miss class, however, this year it is my first-period class, which gives me all the more reason to “oversleep” for an extra hour about once a week. I already see it negatively affecting my grade. I never thought of this as senioritis, but as sleep deprivation. However, Vera suggests surrounding yourself with younger people, such as freshman or sophomores in order to obtain a larger grip of
Typically, required assignments will be done 2-3 days after the given due date. Parents will be calling in their child as being “sick” much more frequently. Scrolling through social media rather than studying for a final test that your grade will depend on. These are three of the most common symptoms of a disease both parents and teachers dread hearing, senioritis.
Christmas break is over and the Spring Semester has begun. The seniors are acting a little sluggish and are starting to avoid their work. A phantom disease, something that has never been diagnosed among anyone, is now taking over the senior class. Senioritis has now kicked into effect. Teachers know that this epidemic is going to run through the halls every year starting around this time and that it is inevitable. This ‘disease’ has been invading schools for many years. Every year students get this so called disease and often ruin their last year of highschool or college. Students can see many effects to know they have senioritis, can do many things to avoid it, and only one thing to get rid of it.
My usual method for writing an essay made it hard for me to start and actually continue into writing it. I would first start out and open a word document; Then, I would try and figure out how I was going to write the entire paper in my head, which made it really difficult sometimes. Starting the essay was definitely my worst enemy because I didn’t know what to start with or how to go about most papers.
It’s your final year of high school and the year is about a third of the way through. Your grades have been great so far and holding strong but, lately you’ve been feeling tired of school, are ready to get it over with and just want to graduate now. These are your first symptoms of senioritis. Senioritis is a crippling disease that strikes most high school students early in their senior year and sometimes, on more rare occasions, it even hits them earlier on at the end of their junior year. The disease takes control of their brains and causes them to lose all motivation to do any school work. Senioritis is a serious problem that could possibly cause grades to drop, college essays to be put off until right before the deadline and for some, receiving detentions from skipping class. Does this sound like you? All of these things that come with having
began my spiritual journey when I became campus ministry president during my senior year. Attending masses and running various retreats for the underclassmen actually brought me closer God. After years of doubting his very existence the defining moment for me would be my senior retreat. Young ladies that I had gone to school with would open my eyes to what really happened beyond the walls of our high school. These were girls that I thought I knew, but it turns out that I only knew what they showed on the exterior. Each girl had a story to tell. Girls that I had previously written off for various reasons became girls that I could relate to, girls that I could empathize with. I grew a deep respect and appreciation for these girls that I attended high
My biggest struggle in writing would be starting my introduction because I never really know what information to add in my stating my thesis statement. Although, one way I’m trying to improve this struggle is by either adding small quotes or definitions to hook the reader and to add some info about my topic. Furthermore, one essay that I feel reflects my writing the best would be the midterm essay. I picked the midterm essay because even though it was timed I still took my time and carefully picked which examples I thought would best represent my opinions. In addition, I feel using the quote “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” by Nelson Mandela was a very powerful way to keep the reader interested. Ultimately, while I still haven’t overcome the obstacle of writing an introduction I know I’m slowly starting to find my way towards my goal of not struggling when it comes to starting my essays.
