Instead of being afraid, be courageous and do not let fear affect difficult decisions. Courage is a choice everyone must make to overcome challenges. Though being courageous is hard, it always pays off. Even though it's easy to be scared, true courage is overcoming that fear. One example of overcoming fear is “The Ravine” by Graham Salisbury, in which a young boy named Vinny shows great courage by overcoming his fear of being bullied and standing up to peer pressure from his friends.
The author achieves her goal. For me the book is written very clearly because of its simple yet descriptive vocabulary. For me this book is the most interesting and entertaining book I have ever read on this topic. If I could change one thing in the book it would probably be to add some visual aid, although the book is still amazing without pictures. This book for me is an 8/10. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a suspenseful and entertaining read. The book is intended for anyone who is mature and likes fiction
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down published in 1997 is a true story involving a Hmong girl named Lia Lee. At a young age, it is discovered that Lia has epilepsy, a physical disease of the nervous system. Although the book is about the Lee family, it also sheds a light on cultural barriers that the Lee family struggled with when becoming Hmong immigrants. The Lee’s were political refugees fleeing their home country of Laos in response to the "Silent War.” They ended up in California where life was much different then they once knew. Lia’s parents and her doctors struggled to meet in the middle and never truly understood one another due to both their language and cultural obstacles. Over time Lia got worse and worse and after having a
The novel, "All Fall Down" by Ally Carter, contains many differing themes. Although, the one that's the most significant is: don’t give up on what you believe in. The author portrays this theme throughout the novel by telling how Grace finds out what really happened to her mother.

What would a person with a scandalous story on the news, a teenager who cannot connect to home, a mother without strength and a musician without music do? These were the positions the four main characters were found in, in the novel A Long Way Down, by Nick Hornby. This novel revolves around four strangers Martin, Maureen, Jess and JJ, who meet on New Year’s Eve in London with the intent of committing suicide. Martin, a father of two little daughters, wants to take his life because his celebrity image has been ruined and he feels that everyone is against him.
In the essay, “In Praise of Margins” Ian Frazier constantly mentions the importance of “marginal” behavior within places and activities as he interprets this concept as an aimless wonder that essentially does not provide anything for the economic world. I agree with Frazier’s claims as demonstrated through the potential of margins in discovering new ideas, assisting creativity, and helping others get out of their comfort zones. This is established throughout the essay as a way encourage the reader to pursue activities or places for the purpose of pure happiness.
Ellie gets separated from the rest of her group and while she’s on the run from the enemy soldiers gets shot in the leg, giving her a serious injury. Meanwhile she has no idea whether her friends got out save or not and if she would ever get to see them again. This is relatable to teens because they have to learn that things don’t always work as planned, that they have to figure out other ways to do things until it does work out or they have to accept that it won’t work. In this story Ellie has to figure out a way to stay alive without her friends for now until she can find them again.
Have you ever been falsely accused of something you didn't do? Well, this happens in the realistic fiction book, Holes by Louis Sachar. I strongly believe that you should read this well developed book, for it has fascinating characters, the great message, and the astounding plot. The 14 year old and main protagonist of the story named Stanley Yelnats goes through a series of unfortunate events that leads him into an abusive camp. He is overweight, lonely in school, and gets bullied frequently. In the camp, the requirement every day is to dig a hole five feet deep, and five feet across in every direction. Because of the many kids in the camp, the landscape is full of holes, and looks dry and beat up. Stanley eventually finds out there is more
Russell Drysdale was a painter of people, of their lives in small country towns and outback places. In Joe’s garden of dreams 1942. He depicts what looks like a family of three in a small rural town in Albury, New South Wales. The family looks disorientated as the father, which would be Joe as it is his garden of dreams. Legends of the Fall is an excellent story of brotherhood, loss, and life. Originally Legends of the Fall was a story written by Jim Harrison, but later was adapted into a film. The story tells of three brothers named: Alfred, Tristan, and Samuel, who lived their lives on a plantation in Montana and then decided to go to war once the youngest brother was of age. Samuel, the youngest brother seemed to be favored by the family; and the older brothers only want to go to war to protect him. Eventually tragedy strikes and young Samuel is killed by machine guns due to his blindness from mustard gas. Tristan (the middle brother) took Samuel’s death especially hard and many other characters thought he had become completely mad. Once Tristan and
This book has taught me that no matter how horrible the situation may seem you have to have confidence, and keep pushing. No matter what, you want to end your life being the best person you can, and you want to live as long as possible. The plane crews in the story were stranded in cold
