On September 11, 2001, 19 people hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against their targets.. Two of the planes crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. (“9/11 attacks”2010). The conspiracy theories started just days after the September 11, 2001 attack. The conspiracies were easy to spread fast when using the internet and they became more and more elaborate as time went on. The most popular 9/11 conspiracy theory is that 9/11 was orchestrated by the American government.
September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.
The actions of the U.S. government and the property management suggest that they knew of the attack in advance. In The Landlord (2001) it was found that the property manager purchased an insurance policy protecting specifically against terrorist attacks just days before the tragedy of September 11th? Furthermore, the anti-terrorism handbook distributed to government officials before the attack pictures the World Trade Center in crosshairs. This just doesn’t simply add up. If the government had nothing to hide, why would they avoid this type of media surrounding the
Beginning in 2001 Intelligence about the impending nature of an attack was increasing, not only from US Intelligence sources but also from 11 other countries such as Britain, Israel, India, Egypt, Morocco and even a top Taliban commander from Afghanistan (Thompson.) Beginning in August warnings become coming in from everywhere, foreign governments, CIA and FBI sources and so on however, next to none of this information was shared between the many intelligence agencies. In April, NORAD launched a training scenario in which the pentagon was to be incapacitated by a hijacked airliner however the Joint Chiefs of Staff disregarded the scenario as “too unrealistic” (September 11 attacks advance-knowledge debate.) On august 19th the Israeli’s gave US intelligence personnel credible information including, the list of 19 suspected terrorist’s names and the fact that a large aircraft would be the primary weapon involved. The names were not shared by the CIA with other intelligence agencies (Robinson.)
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, the United States of America was tragically attacked by members of al- Qaeda. Nineteen radicals associated with the Islamic extremist group hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against planned targets in the United States. Of the
The attackers were terrorists from Saudi Arabia and many other Arab nations. Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization supposedly orchestrated these attacks, they were acting against Americas support for Israel, our role in the Persian Gulf War, and military presence in the east. Many of the terrorists had lived in America for about a year before the attack. The terrorists smuggled box cutters and knives easily through security making it easy to hijack the planes. Right after takeoff, the terrorists took full control of the planes turning them from normal airliners into weapons. (History)
For example, because the US refused to believe that Stalin was holding to the agreements at Yalta (Larson, 151), Truman missed a key opportunity to befriend the great power and continue with Roosevelt's Grand Design. In the case of September 11, cognitive dissonance resulted in intelligence failure. There were several warnings within the US intelligence system, but the government ignored them because the new information did not fit the old paradigm of terrorism, and because the government discredited the warnings, the greatest tragedy on US soil ever occurred.
In the past, there were many attacks on Americans that were treated as extremist acts and indicators of continuing attacks against Americans and their targets of opportunity. One premonition of the 9-1-1 attacks occurred on the very site of the actual attack on 9-1-1. On February 26, 1993, the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2008). They place a truck loaded with 1,500 lbs of explosive in the basement structure of the North Tower. Their intention was to topple it into the South Tower killing thousands. The results were six killed and almost two-thousand injured when the devastation was completed. Closer to the 9-1-1 attack, men with Middle Eastern physical traits wanted to learn how to fly planes without learning to land them. This should have been an indicator of hidden agendas which should have raised more alarms.
Thinking about the government knowing about these attacks and doing nothing about it is sickening. Nobody wants to believe it, and that makes it all the ever more important. The first thing that may come to mind when trying to comprehend this idea is, why would the government want to do something like this anyway? One theory suggests that they needed to push the Patriot Act through congress. The Patriot Act’s title is a ten-letter backronym (USA PATRIOT) which stands for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001". It was signed by former President George W. Bush in October of 2001. Another theory suggests that the United States government needed to justify the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. Nothing fires up patriotism like an attack on our own
George Bush had prior knowledge about the attacks. September eleventh 2001 was just a secret operation in which the government pretended to be a victim of a premeditated self attack on their own people to justify going to war with a falsely accused enemy. Such a deceitful operation is most popularly known as False flag terrorism but to get away with an operation this grand the ability of emergency responders would have to be impaired. On the day of nine-eleven there were multiple war games being administrated by many United States defense agencies. The games involved a simulation of
September 11th, 2001 was a very traumatic time for the United States. On that day planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and caused the Twin Towers to collapse (“11 Facts”). Along with the Twin Towers collapsing, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC was hit with a plane and another plane crashed down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“11 Facts”). On United Flight 93, the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, passengers became aware of the hijacking and tried to fight the hijackers to regain control of the plane (“11 Facts”). So many people were killed and within all those people, several of them were either police officers or fire fighters (“11
When the US was warned about the possibility of a terrorist attack on US soil, why was the threat not taken seriously? Some of the lower grade official (CIA), took the threat to be very seriously, but were told to dismiss the warnings, by top their superiors. September 10, 2001, a number of the Pentagon’s top brass suddenly cancel travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security concerns. The airlines security system was not up graded to possible terrorists attack alert.
Van Bergen (2002) website states “Many people do not know the US Patriot Act was already written and ready to go long before the September 11th” (p. 1). Critics of the Bush Administration claim the government had information that could have helped prevent the attacks of September 11th. Sharing information and investigations between the agencies, FBI and CIA, was allowed to break the obstacles that once separated investigations that involving criminal and intelligence ones. Information obtained by the United States Justice Department showed the CIA had previous
Prior to September 11, 2001, people could sneak weapons onto planes. The weapons included explosives and tools that individuals could use to help hijack planes. In 1995, Al Qaeda plotted to bomb 12 United States trans-Pacific flights and also planned to kill Bill Clinton on his trip to the Philippines (Cronin 2). Al Qaeda is a Muslim extremist group that is known for resorting to terrorism and killing to please God. When a Muslim extremist group performs a deadly attack, they think that they are eliminating the evil in the world. There were also many
The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization were allegedly acting the U.S. in retaliation for their support of Israel, their involvement in the Persian Gulf War and their military presence in the Middle East. Some of the terrorists lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American flight schools. The others had snuck into the country in the months before September 11th and were considered the “muscle” in the operation. They smuggled box-cutters and knives through the loose security at three East Coast airports and boarded four different airliners bound for California, they chose these flights because they were filled with jet fuel for the long flight across the country. After takeoff, they raided the cockpit of the planes and took control, doing this turned the normal passenger jets into huge missiles.
