“The term ‘serial killings’ means a series of three or more killings, not less than one of which was committed within the United States, having common characteristics such as to suggest the reasonable possibility that the crimes were committed by the same actor or actors.” (FBI; Serial Murder)
Serial killers suffer from a variety of personality disorders, including psychopathy, antisocial personality, and others. I think there are many characteristics, but I found these stand out the most to me: They want power. Most serial murderers love to be in control and have power over their victim (probably due to an abusive childhood.) Second is being a manipulator. The characteristics are all developed by how the person develops from birth to childhood until the day they die, they are also developed by life experiences and as well as biological factors. They get to be the way they are from their heredity, their upbringing, and the choices they’ve made. Neglect and abuse in childhood can increase violence. In some people, if they don’t develop coping mechanisms that can cause them to be violent. Some serial murderers are so average acting they often have families and homes, and are employed. They are like normal people which is the scariest to me. You never know who you’re passing by that might be a serial killer. Serial killers are from all racial groups whether they be white, african american, etc. Serial killers are all driven by their own unique motives or reasons. Motivations for serial murders includes anger, thrill, financial gain, and attention seeking. Serial killers have certain areas where they want and feel comfortable doing their killings. They conduct their killings within comfort zones that are often defined by a place where they are usually at. That being a place where they work, live, relatives houses, etc.
