How would you use Servant Leadership in your nursing practice 3. How does Servant Leadership apply to a nursing theorist you are familiar with Servant Leadership describes its leaders as those who are able to achieve results for their organization simple by serving the individual team members first and making sure their needs a priority. In this leadership style, the nurse leader looks to the needs of the staff and consistently asks how they as a leader they can help the staff solve problems and promote personal development. The entire team has input into decision-making based on the values and ideals that best represent the company and manage the care of the patient. Skills of a servant leader include: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to growth, and building community. Each of the skills can directly relate to nursing to servant leadership. When it comes to listening, a nurse in the leadership position should be an active listener. This person should pay attention to the needs of staff and supports or helps direct their decision-making. The opinions and ideas of others are sought and valued. Ideas for improvement are not traditionally solicited from staff nurses. However as a nursing leader this should become a regular occurrence. The servant leader
