Service. Challenge. Ethics. The motivation I have for attending a service academy can be summed up in these three words. Growing up in a military family, my life has always revolved around service, challenge and ethics. It is what is imbedded in me and it is what I strive to continue living by. I have never been the kind of person to back down from a challenge. Challenge is defined as something that by its nature or character serves as a call to battle. A military service academy is the ultimate call to battle for any young man or woman. I have never been one to back down from a challenge. I have always been a very competitive individual and would always accept any challenge thrown in my direction. Many of the challenges I have faced have been in and around the pool. I began competitively swimming when I was seven years old. As I have grown up in the swimming world, I have been faced with many challenges that push me past my comfort zone, testing my physical and mental limits. Training 4-6 hours a day, attending school, volunteering in my community, and balancing these tasks responsibly is a challenge in it of itself. I believe these obstacles have prepared me for the challenges imposed at a service academy. My ambition after college is to serve as an officer in the military. I wish to serve by assisting those who have been wounded physically …show more content…
One of these individuals is my dad. My dad graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and has served in the Air Force for over 20 years. I have a sense of the challenges from his experiences that I will face at a service academy. People often ask why I want to go to a service academy, knowing what I am going to be facing and my answer is always the same; I want to protect the freedom that others have protected for me. I want to join the Americans, living and deceased, who have fought to protect our
I decided to start volunteering at the local humane society because I’ve always been really passionate about animals and wanted to start benefiting them in the community. Prior to my service I was delighted because I’ve wanted to start volunteering for years and was glad the opportunity had presented itself. Throughout my experience I learned a great deal and met a lot of new people. Even though I’ve only just started serving my time at the Fox Valley Humane Association I can truly see the difference it has made in the community.
My reasons for wanting to attend the Service Academies are quite far from ordinary. Firstly, I want to offer my services to this nation as a debt of gratitude for permitting me to become one of it’s citizens, and secondly I want to to have the pleasure of attaining a higher form of education and training, that will one day be imperative to my advancement in life. I trust these dreams of mine will never be completely accomplished had I chosen an ordinary college. I would prefer not to attend an ordinary school, because I deeply desire a place that will test and push me toward achieving my maximum potential.
I’m applying for a career of opportunities and experiences that will make me a better man, and to serve our country’s military. I’ve carefully observed my cousins’ experiences at the US Service Academies, and I’ve learned of the opportunities that would be available to me. Each of them has come out with more strength, more confidence, more discipline, and most importantly more character. Both the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy would challenge me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I want to take on this challenge in my life so that I will grow, and that I will play a part in ensuring the safety and security of our country.
Students who are associated with a Academy strive for the highest degree in education; they pursue not only academic purposes, but also serve in military duty to aid, assist, and defend the United States of America. Attending an Academy in a military branch such as the U.S. Air force would benefit myself as well as the high standards of the United States. The laws that were established and are upheld agree with my personal beliefs. The aphorism of the Air Force Academy is Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence in All We Do has been instilled in me since my childhood.
Freedom...sounds like such a simple idea. The United States is the greatest country in the world and I have the honor of living in one of its most beautiful areas. Northeastern Tennessee is full of beautiful mountains, recreational lakes and proud people. I would like to accept the challenges and sacrifices faced by our service men and women, and, in doing so, proudly represent those people who have done so much for me. I would quickly accept the opportunity to serve our great nation and to help protect our freedoms as our veterans have done in the past. My interest in serving our country, specifically by attending a service academy, started at a young age. I attended an air show and toured a battleship while my family was on vacation,
In this paper, I discuss the experience I have gained from my service learning, along
Since I was young I have had the upmost admiration for our nation’s elite fighting force. I was captivated by the idea of being a part of an organization comprised of proud Americans with shared values of selflessness, honor, and loyalty. I was raised by two devoted parents with strong principles who dedicated their lives to serving others in their respective medical careers. At a young age I joined the cub scouts followed by a transition into boy scouts where I was instilled with the values of honor, duty and teamwork. I actively served my community developing a passion for continued service.
I initially thought I would not fit into the Brigade because everyone would be more talented both academically and physically than me, but I have learned that if I try my hardest than I have nothing to regret. I approach every day with the mindset that I will give it my all, and by building on my strengths and natural talents, I have been successful thus far at the academy. Over the next three years, I will continue to develop myself so I can become the best officer I can be. I realize that the challenges that are presented to me every day are miniscule compared to the challenges many people around the world face. I am committed to the Naval Academy because what I do today affects how well I will be able to lead
I am a currently a veteran of the United States Navy. I served on active duty for 12 years. During my 12 years of service, I earned an Bachelor’s of Science in Healthcare Management through Southern Illinois University. While I was in the military I had the opportunity to be the president of the Morale Welfare and Recreation program for my command. One of the most rewarding collateral duties I was a part of. While on deployment I coordinated parties, movie nights, game nights and other fun things to help boost morale. I really enjoyed seeing people interact and have an enjoyable time with their military family while away from their real family.
Thank you for your dedicated service in the US Army and our country. Even though you work with a few other Mikes, luckily the military branches aren’t strangers from being able to respond to our last names. When I got out of the Marines, It was so strange hearing my first name being called out again. It is super cool that you have woodworking skills and yard work is always continuous.
A way of growing both mentally, and spiritually is through performing service. Service is an act of helping others, and it comes in multiple forms. Service can be as simple as giving comfort or helping to change and save a life. Service never fails to make us happy; it gives us a sense of growth, and maybe a part of ourselves that we have yet to discover. By performing service, we not only bring happiness to ourselves, but also to those we serve. Therefore, service should always be an act of kindness so that the happiness that is felt would not be cheated.
As a military child, my interest in the naval service has always been present. My father and grandfather, active and retired naval officers, have greatly influenced my desire to continue the legacy of military service. However, my desire to become a naval officer does not solely come from my family’s naval service, but rather from what it means to serve our country. Being a part of the military community, I have learned what it truly means to serve in the Navy and the honor and responsibility that comes with it. To serve as a naval officer is to put the life of others above your own and serve with unquestionable loyalty and distinction. I know that this is who I want to become, and being involved with the military and it’s lifestyle for the
In my opinion, service work is a beneficial attribute for today's society. Volunteering can range from helping out at a humane society to helping a neighbor mow their lawn. Through volunteering, you can meet new people and try new things. Volunteering helps a numerous amount of people, even if at first it doesn't seem like it. Also, Doing service work can influence others to go out and do some of their own volunteering.
There are multiple traits that truly demonstrate why I am qualified to be a Naval officer, the first being honor. The word “honor” is a word so powerful that it resonates through the minds of millions, even billions of people from multitudes of cultures and generations from the past and present. Honor holds such a value in some cultures that in the past, even committing a small dishonorable act could lead to death. By modern standards my interpretation of honor relates largely to a person staying committed and persevering through pain to maintain his honor. This is especially true when discussing the military. I have had aspirations to join the military for more than ten years now. I have always respected members of every single branch of this
The Military is my career goal after graduating from college. In order for me to achieve this goal I will need to stay in school, maintain good grades, and achieve a 3.0 or higher GPA. Additionally, I plan to attend Har-Ber High School and receive my High School diploma. Furthermore, I plan to attend the University of Arkansas and obtain a Bachelor's degree. After college I plan to attend boot camp to receive training and prepare myself physically for the military. Additionally, I will prepare for the military by conducting research and becoming well versed with military news.
