Is there an identifiable and documented nexus between the disability and the assistance that the animal provides? If so, please describe.

I agree with this rule because the animals could put people in danger but a dog or a miniature horse cant.

After reading the articles Dog’s on duty and Service Dogs, Patients Bond Through Health Care Partnership, I decided that the first skill a dog must learn to become a service dog/police dog is a high sense of smell, especially to become a police dog. From the article Dog’s on duty: “He and other police dogs across the country are skilled at sniffing out danger and keeping people safe.” Dogs are said to have a sense of smell 1000 times better than a human being which is helpful if a dog needs to sniff out a bomb or something equally as dangerous. Those are my reasons why I think dogs absolutely need a good sense of smell.

Service dog are very helpful to people in need that’s why they are so important. When the puppies are about 8-12 months they are away from their moms, so they can be trained to help people in need. According to “The wonders Veterans”,The dogs can help other people when they are not able to do things on their own, so they can help a lot. Also these dogs are very well trained and very smart.

In today’s evolving society, there is more mobility that ever for people with disabilities. One of the things that allows this to happen is the use of service animals. Problems however arise when people try to cheat the system. In my opinion, I agree with only having service dogs, and miniature horses allowed in public places. The reason I say this is because, It would be a little bit disturbing if I were to be eating at a restaurant and seeing a snake sitting on a man's shoulder. Source #3 has this example “A man has a large snake draped over his shoulders. He wants to enter a café for lunch and says the snake is a service animal that helps and comforts him.” Also, some people can be lying about having a service animal just so that they can take an animal in the public area.

Walking into my final class of the day, I noticed that a fellow student is with a dog. As I got closer to the couple, the urge to pet the animal washed over me. My hands began to itch to feel the fur on my skin and to find the extraordinary spot behind the ear that all dogs love. However, a red vest caught my eyes with the words “SERVICE DOG” and “DO NOT PET” that yelled at me to not go through with my actions. Reluctantly obeying the warnings, I sat down next to the pair with an unaccomplished mission that was put before me. Trying to ignore the desire to pet the dog, another student asked if they could pet the dog. I heard the owner respond with, “I’m sorry. He’s still in training.” After hearing this, I realized that we forget that these dogs are on the job to help out their owners with their medical or mental disabilities and we, the outsiders, only see these dogs for our amusement. By defining what is considered a service animal, what the policies are for college campuses, what these animals are trained specifically for a certain numbers of tasks and we, as students, must respect their job and their owners. However, there are those that abuse the power of the loose definition of a service animal.

Animal Assisted Therapy also known as animal-assisted therapy has been formally introduced to the world in the last ten years or so. Although animals have always been a place of comfort for a lot of people, scientists just began to realize the impact animals have on society. The world has begun to experiment with what animals can do to benefit human health. The most common type of animal-assisted therapy is equine-assisted therapy. Equines are horses. Equine-assisted therapy 's impact on minors who have mental health issues have led to a successful new type of therapy that includes multiple benefits. Equine-assisted therapy has worked well in is treating adolescents and children how to communicate and connect with others. Two big issues that animal-assisted therapy has been known to help is Autism and kids with attachment and social problems.

A service animal is any dog that is trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. The difference between a service animal and a regular pet is that a service animal does work/tasks that must be directly related to the handler’s disability. Service animals have been helping disabled humans since 1927. There are three types of service animals: guide animals, hearing animals, and service animals. A guide dog helps to guide the blind; a hearing dog helps to signal the hearing impaired to noises; a service dog helps do work for patients with disabilities other than blindness and deafness.
