Cognitive psychology is a theory which explains how negative thinking patterns can cause depression. Behavioral therapy is a technic used to help with depression by changing the person’s faulty thinking patterns. (Word press, 2012). Interpersonal therapy focuses on troubled relationships that cause or exasperate the depression. Cognitive/Behavior therapy focuses on changing the negative thinking and negative behavior due to depression (University of Pittsburgh, N.D.).
A current trend for depression is telephone psychotherapy this is used for the convenience of the patients because one third of people suffering from depression do not receive an effective amount of therapy.(Simon, Ludman, Tutty, Operskalski, Korff, 2004). Telephone therapy has made it easier for the older generation to continue therapy as it becomes too difficult for them to come to the office. It is also convenient for the very busy fast pass younger generation.
Treatment for severe Clinical depression must include medication, because the most important thing is to make sure the patient does not hurt themselves or anyone else. Cognitive and behavioral therapies are both forms of psychotherapy (a psychological approach to treatment) and are based on scientific principles that help people change the way they think, feel and behave. They are problem-focused and practical. There are 4 elements within CBT: Cognitions (thoughts, reasoning, memory, imagination), Behavior, Emotions (feelings), and Physical Self (sensations), with all of these set within the context of a social and physical environment – CBT cannot ignore any one of these. The theory I am focusing the most on in Cognitive Behavioral therapies is the cognitive aspect of the theory.

Six to seven months ago I broke my right ankle, I was out for about five months. Having surgery and being in crutches made it difficult for my family, friends, and me to do actions that I normally do in a daily basis. I had to get help from other people and eventually in those five to six months I experienced situational depression. Which created a bigger impact in my life and helped me improve.

This form of therapy has also been proven that when handling any disorder that can experience an episode that through this therapy it can help prevent another episode from reoccurring (Hoffman, Asnaani, Vonk, Sawyer, & Fang, 2012). Through this process, it will allow the patient to see that they are in charge of their behaviors and thoughts. It also allows them to realize when there is a chance of a relapse occurring, so that way they know how to help prevent themselves from not having control of their thoughts and behaviors.
