Theresa Flores, a girl from Detroit, was 15 years old when a boy she had a crush on from school offered her a ride home. Instead of taking her home he brought her back to his house where he insisted she come in. Red flags went off in Theresa’s head, but he told her he liked her, and that’s all it took to convince her to come inside. He offered her a soda laced with drugs that made her become dizzy, and then he raped her. The next day at school the boy and his friends informed her of the pictures they had taken of her, and threatened her to “earn the pictures back”, or they would share the pictures with everyone at school, her church, and to her family. From that day on, every night Theresa would receive a call around midnight and the boys would pick her up and bring her to random houses where often several men would be waiting for her. This continued for almost two years till her family relocated (Zukowski, 2015). This is one example of a girl being lured into sex trafficking as a teen and is one out of an estimated 800,000 women and children that are trafficked across international borders every year (Facts on human trafficking and sex slavery, 2012). Sex trafficking is a huge issue today and is only continuing to grow as an industry. In order to put an end to this horrifying issue more action must be taken in order for a difference of significance to be made. In this article we got to see the struggles that the girls went through from start to finish. It explained how the girls were promised better live but instead were forced to do these acts for many hours of the day every day of the week. It included the threats and rules the girls needed to follow. This information allows you to feel that you can understand and relate to what they went through. He explained that the police are trying to figure out what is the next step and what they can do to free other victims around the world.

As mentioned above, one very prominent private factor that relates closely to child sex trafficking is the trauma that a child may have after they are back in a safe environment. What needs to be looked at is how a private trouble, such as trauma, relates to a broader public issue of victim resources that are available for children.

Nothing drives emotions out the window more than hearing about innocent children being used for sex. In Cambodia, sex trafficking has grown into a troublesome issue. Sex trafficking has become one of the fastest growing crimes occurring internationally. It is the third largest crime-business in the world, after drugs and arms trafficking. Women, girls, and even men and boys are victims of the billion-dollar sex trafficking industry. Sex trafficking occurs everywhere, and it is not culturally specific, but a gender specific issue. This semester for my service learning project, I decided to learn about the topic of human sex trafficking. The organization, The Ruth House, is one of the many organizations dedicated to helping those in need. The founder Dr. Donna Sallee’ believes in using the faith of Jesus Christ to minister to those women and children in need.

For many of the people that are trafficked around the world the majority appears to be women between the age range of 12 -31. Unfortunately there are men and women that travel the world seeking out young girls to live out their sexual fantasies. Men and boys are also used in this way; however, there is only a small percentage when looking at the entire illegal business. Both are often sexually abused and physically and mentally tortured to keep them in line. Some people think that because a woman is selling her body that it is by her own choice; however, "traffickers will often threaten to harm or kill family members so victims may not even try to escape"(Ecclestone 2013).

Human trafficking is an uncommon occurrence all over the world, yet, it still sometimes goes unnoticed. There are many warning signs associated with human trafficking victims. Human trafficking has two major types. Trafficking also takes place all over the world and not just in the United States. The effects of human trafficking can be devastating.

Human trafficking or modern day slavery is a multi-dimensional threat that impact and devastate the lives of many individual and deprives them of their basic fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Everyday more and more people are getting involved in a negative way. Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry and also the fastest growing crime. This is due to the high profit, and low risk of getting caught. Trafficking within countries or abroad is, and will always be a violation of human rights. The people behind this will never stop or slow down, this is a multi-billion dollar industry. Also, the number of individuals a trafficker can control, the more money they earn. We are all competitive people, and money turns people into animals.

Human trafficking is a very real problem in the world today. Every minute of every day another human is sold into slavery all around the world. Whether it is to begging in the streets, working in cocoa plantations, dancing, prostitution, smuggling drugs, or house labors. In a modern world where most countries have banned slavery we still find it in our backyards today.
