Sexism is one of many topic that needs to be discuss. Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex. Gender inequality is referred as unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Womens gets less advantage than men because men gets more opportunity than women. Even though some people may say otherwise, sexism is a big obstacle for many in the U.S. because of gender inequality, intersectionality and misogyny. Many women in America struggle due to gender inequality. Gender inequality is a really big issue when it comes to the work labor. Most job’s in America are mainly for mens. Misogyny is defined as dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women. Elliot Rodger a 22yrs old who was obsessed with his look, being accepted and getting a girlfriend planned a shooting spree. But what was the cause? In the article “7 Dead in Rampage Near U.C. Santa Barbara by Associated Press, in his manifesto he explained that “My main target was the girls. I wanted to punish them for talking to obnoxious boys instead of me”. This quotes shows that Elliot Rodger was verbally abusing these girls because he hated them for not talking to him. This proves misogyny is still a problem in America. Rodger wanted to be noticed by girls but that was never possible for him. This lead him into taking advantage of women because he had more power. This proves that misogyny is an issue in America. Many women across the country has experienced physical abuse. As stated in the article “Colleges acting crazy over campus rapes -(my opinion)” by George F. Will, One magazine reported that in 2013, a student at Swarthmore College “was in her room with a guy with whom she’d been hooking up for three months.” They had “mutually, she thought” decided to just be friends. But they fell asleep in her bed and he started trying to take off her clothes. She said, “No, I don’t want to have sex with you” and he stopped, but then he started again and she “just kind of laid there and didn’t do anything” because she was “tired and just wanted to go to bed” so she “let him finish.” This shows that the female student couldn’t do anything because she didn’t have the strength to fight back. This is connected to misogyny because she didn’t feel that she had the power to stop him. No matter where we go misogyny is always there and that’s why misogyny is an issue especially for our society today.
