The Storm

As the distinguished Haruki Murakami once said, “When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person that walked in. That's what the storm is all about.” Murakami suggests that even though sometimes a storm does not leave tangible evidence, its effect will in fact be remembered. In “The Storm” , by Kate Chopin, the storm is exciting and dangerous just as the affair between Calixta and Alcee. Once 'the storm' has subsided, everything recovers and goes back to the way it was before it.
Chopin depicts a scenario of a woman and man having sexual relations to ease the struggles of their everyday lives. Just as a storm washes away debris, their affair washes away the bittersweet relationships they have with their spouses for the time being.

But the most important setting is in the house whenever Bobinot and Bibi are not home, and Alcee needs some shelter from the storm that takes place outside. In some assumptions one would say that there is a storm happening on the inside as well(sexual relations between Alcee and Calixta). The residence in itself is described briefly by having a “small front gallery” and, “the dining room – the sitting room – the general utility room.” The house allows Calixta and Alcee to have some shelter from the storm, however no one warned them about the storm happening on the inside of themselves. With all of these things happening around them, it allows for them to rekindle feelings and letting the storms take their course. When the storm subsides, Calixta and Alcee now must part ways, which in turn makes their affair
