A Torn and Revengeful Heart Hamlet a story known for the intertwining of life disastrous consequences takes place in Hamlet’s Denmark. Prince Hamlet is battling different emotions and an unstable state of mind after the death of his father. Gertrude, his mother, adds fuel to the fire by marrying his uncle shortly after his father’s death causing Hamlet to view women in an unpleasant light. A mother’s love is one that should have an unbreakable bond. This love is a guiding example of how a man should grow and treat women like the jewels they are. In doing so, a mother should be careful not to bring disgrace upon the family and herself. This eventually happened in the eyesight of Hamlet when his newly widowed mother married with “wicked speed” (I, ii, 158). This shined an unwanted light upon Demark as a “rotten country” (Royanian, Shamsoddin, and Elham Omrani). In the mind of Hamlet, this was an ultimate betrayal, which sparks some distrust and disdain not only for his mother but also for women in general. The mere fact that his grieving process was still in infancy, he now had to deal with what he believed as incestuous behavior by a woman of high esteem. It is evident that Hamlet is falling into deep depression as he states “But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue” (I, ii, 161).
