The show Shameless captures the dysfunctional and chaotic Gallagher family. It centers around the lives of Frank Gallagher and his six children, Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl, and Liam. Due to Frank’s alcoholic and drug addiction, his eldest daughter Fiona has taken the parental role of the family by taking care of her younger siblings and providing financially for the home. Every episode revolves around a crazy situation that Frank or one or more of the children have gotten themselves into. It is hard to maintain a stable lifestyle since they live in the South Side of Chicago, but somehow this family is always able to come back together with the exception of the father. Frank, selfishly will go to any extent to provide for himself and does not care about the destruction that he causes within society or his own home. In season 2 episode 3, “I’ll Light a Candle for You Every Day”, Dottie Coronis, a woman from the neighborhood is introduced as being diagnosed with heart failure who needs a rare, compatible heart. Frank knows that she might not receive a new heart so he tries to manipulate his way to earning some of Dottie’s pension. After days of befriending Dottie, he uses a stolen ring to propose to Dottie, to which she agrees. Shortly after, her heart transplant pager goes off as she is in the shower, but Frank does not tell her and instead calls the hospital back informing them of a lie: that Dottie has passed away. Frank contributes to this woman’s death for the purpose
In When We Fight, We Win by Greg Jobin-Leeds it says that “comparison can block compassion both for others and for ourselves.” I agree with such statement; I think that listening is a skill you learn throughout time. One can pretend to listen without really getting anything out of the conversation that one is having with that other person. In the Compassionate Listening workshop, I got to do it with Rachel Kurland and I sit and listened to her talking about the moment her friend treason her. I tried to understand her plight, why would she not cut that friendship off, I understood she loved her friend, however, I could not resist bringing my biases to our conversation. I asked myself, why is Rachel, such a good, loving, and smart person,
There are multiple problems that are currently affecting the Gallagher family system. Frank has been an unreliable parent to the children since Fiona’s birth. Frank is currently trying to insert himself back into the family’s life; yet, the children are not fond of this change. Fiona recently became her sibling’s legal guardian. Fiona’s guardianship has lead to a change in roles within the family that her siblings are struggling to adjust to. Fiona is struggling with her role and when she should act as if a parent and when to act as a sister.
Shameless a family comedy-drama that portrays a low-income family trying to make a living on the south side of Chicago. The show focuses on the Gallagher family, and how the family of seven get by without the presence of their father Frank. The eldest daughter Fiona Gallagher, cares for herself and her other five siblings while their father Frank indulges in his spiraling additions. Instead of spending time with the family Frank, riddles their home with theft, drug use, and alcohol addiction. He does make appearances here and there, but when he does, he lacks in his parenting approach. Shameless illustrates depictions of race, sexuality, indicative character development, and heavy drug and alcohol use.
Frank morphs his personality into whatever someone wants him to be. To others he has the perfect family; however, he has a secret. When he is with Kenny he is rude to Tub. But when he is with Tub he seems to be himself. His affair with the babysitter is killing this supposed family man. He doesn't want to leave his wife simply because she's been good to him. The obvious reason of love isn't even mentioned in relation to his wife. When Frank tells Tub about true love it's as if he is a fifteen-year-old girl himself. The way he describes it one could easily imagine the same conversation happening in the girls' bathroom of a high school after a first kiss. "`Tub, have you ever been really in love?' `Well-' `I mean really in love.' He squeezed Tub's wrist. `With your whole being.' `I don't know. When you put it like that, I don't know.' `You haven't then. Nothing against you, but you'd know it if you had.' Frank let go of Tub's arm. `This isn't just some bit of fluff I'm talking about'" (Wolff 88). Frank is extremely immature. His views on life and love make it evident that he would make a connection with a fifteen-year-old. He believes that a friend should be

Shameless takes place modern day, small old house in the rough south side of Chicago. The show goes from talking about a dysfunctional family, gay relationship, alcoholic father, struggle to make ends meet, and the daily life of the Gallagher family and their friends. Frank Gallagher is the alcoholic addicted father that does the complete opposite of what a decent father would do for their family. He drinks non-stop, thinks he knows everything, never takes ownership, and shows zero concern for his family unless it's convenient for him. Frank is the prime example of a drunk father who only wants what’s best for himself. Fiona is the daughter of frank. She is the leader and mother-like figure in the household. Lip, Ian, Carl, Debbie, and Liam are the rest of the Gallagher family. Lip has the brains and has all the potential in the world, but doesn’t show it. Ian is the ambitious one in the family. He struggles, whether he is straight or gay. Later in the show his true
Both of their mother’s died while giving birth. Frank's mother, Angie was very dear to Eldon, therefore Frank’s birth and his presence constantly reminded him of Angie:”Every time [he] looked at [him] all’s [he] could see was her (Wagamese 226). Her death and his negligence cost a father and son relationship to be lost for years, as Frank had no fond memories of his father, and was not aware of what it truly means to be a family, where people bring distances closer and understand each other's emotions. The absence of Angie had a greater effect on Frank, as he received no love or affection from his father, thus causing a negative effect on him emotionally.
Margaret dying wounds the family terribly. Frank’s father had been sober while Margaret
Frank becomes romantically involved with a woman named Mary Ann who is going through a divorce with a man named Richard Strout. Now Richard did not take Frank to his liking. That was slightly an understatement; Richard went as far as to shoot Frank in the head during a heated argument, killing him in front of Mary Ann’s two boys. Due to his family’s wealth, Richard was able to walk freely on bail before his trial. Matt Fowler, Frank’s father, just having gone through a divorce with his wife, Ruth, is tired of feeling empty, tired of having the people he loved dearest leave him suddenly.
Reflection is a major factor in "developing self-awareness" to improve services provided to everyone around me, this is to develop my own understanding in realising the good and bad made previously. Moving forward with a better understanding, as well as rectifying the mistake whilst recognizing the good points, (Horton-Deutsch and Sherwood, 2008).
1. Paulette, Franks mother decided to get a divorce with his father Frank who was still was in love with her. Frank decided to live with his father after the divorce papers were signed. It was during this time in his life that he learned how the real world worked.
The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the contribution of reflective practice for clinical nursing. Reflection has been defined as a way for individuals to “capture their experience, think about it, mull it over and evaluate” (Boud et al 1985: 19)
Hey you! I took part in D.A.R.E at Clear Creek Elementary School with Officer Brandon Trapp! I thought this class was very interesting. I am going to tell you tips and tricks I learned in D.A.R.E.
Unlike other incarnations, this version of Frank cherished and deeply loved his family. He speaks fondly of his memories of them, laughing at some points while tearing up at others. He confides in Karen when he admits that his fear is forgetting about them and it becomes easy to see why the death of his family is such a driving force behind everything he does. It also reveals that he used to just be a normal man with a happy family - that he was a real person before he became this murderous vigilante. He used to sing songs, annoy his fellow Marines with children’s themes, do impressions, laugh at jokes, and read his kids bedtime stories. He cried when he was reunited with his daughter after he finished his active duty overseas as a soldier and he was regretful that he wasn’t able to spend more time with his family while he was gone. Sometimes, little moments of the old Frank appear, whether it’s through his fondness of dogs or his respect towards women and fellow soldiers, but they’re only shadows of who he
