Introduction In my opinion, family, and the relationship between different family members, is messy and confusing, but beautiful nonetheless. Family, in my opinion, is a complex web of interconnectedness, and mutual love. My personal definition of family, is those who are there for you in your hour of need. I have been very blessed to have an amazing support system, who is there to love and support me through life’s challenges. However, my opinion on family is constantly changing, as I grow and learn, about the individuals around me, and family history that has come to light. To clarify, as I have grown older, I have started to become more aware of family struggles, and have become privy to conversations on family, that at a young age, I was not. Family history, and struggles are very hard to hear and learn about, and are at times, too difficult to explain on a piece of paper. However, it is incredibly important to acknowledge the past, in order to understand your family’s future.
“Families are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.” This quote represents the fact that family splits apart but remains as one and plays a crucial role in one's life. Moreover, a good supporting family can impact anyone in a positive way. Although, a dysfunctional family can affect someone in a negative way. Identity, the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Family can define one’s identity to a great extent. For example, parents can impact their children in many ways and siblings as well. Community, family, and gender configures one’s identity intensely.
Secondarily, the family can affect a person on how will they view the world, and how would they live with it. There are certain things that we are doing just because we need to and our family tells us to. Some of it may become our permanent responsibilities in life. Me as an example, because of my family’s high expectations I became responsible for my studies. Having good grades was not just a thing that I just wanted; it was a responsibility for me because our family is expecting everyone to be successful. Another is the responsibility to have the best career; my family does not take enough as an answer because they always wanted the best or the highest. Living with an Asian family was really tough because it was like I’m always in a competition. However, in my perspective, I know that they are doing this just for my own good. In addition, there are some family traditions that were known in our family like celebrating family reunion annually. It became a part of us even it was not mandatory. There are also simple things that we do because of our family, and it became a tradition even though we are not aware of it. It was automatically built in our minds that we should live this way, and make it our lifestyle. Overall, one reason why the family is a big part of being is because they affect people greatly to their lifestyles
There are many aspects that contribute to the idea of family. Family by definition, is a group of people related by blood (e.g. parents, siblings, cousins, etc). In class we have read and discussed many pieces of work that depict the influences of family and/or home on the individual. One of the two I will discuss is “Charlotte Temple” by Susanna Rowson, as well as “A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson” by Mary Rowlandson, both of which demonstrate the power of familial bonds and its effect over the course of your life. The impact of family, whether it is weak or strong, will define who you are as a person.
“Everyday Use” Something that you can’t control about your life is your family. Good, bad, or ugly, you start your life with them in some capacity. By being present or not, positive or not, they will shape your life. Your family should bring out the best in you. They should encourage you to do what you’ve always inspired to do and to be who you’ve always inspired to be. You should never disregard your family or forget where you come from. When you have your family by your side, you never need to feel that you are alone as you step out into the world.

Violence, Abuse and Neglect I have been the victim of physical abuse, on several occasions, by more than one partner. Ironically, never by the man I married and divorced. One relationship involved violence in the sense that is defined by Macionis as “physical aggression with the purpose of controlling, intimidating, and

A family can be defined in many ways, but the common denominator in all is the love and fulfillment one gets by being surrounded by family members. Families can sometimes be at odds with each other, but the strain of this type of relationship usually creates an upsetting feeling to the people involved. People want others to rely on, talk to, do things with, share, love, embrace, and be part of. No matter what the family dynamic is the qualities the word family has will remain the same, as time goes by, and life evolves once again for every person living their
Introduction A family is a group of two or more people that are related by blood, marriage (registered), adoption, step or fostering, and who usually live together in the same household. This includes newly-weds without children, gay partners, couples with dependants, single mums or dads with children, siblings living together, and many other variations (What is a family, 2013).
