Even though, the civil war ended in 1865; we can understand the different dynamics of racism, ethnicity, and social class in America because the way that African, Indians, and Mexicans were mistreated do to the fact that they were consider a lower class. This period it was hard for humanity because of the way this beautiful human beans were treated. It was not mercy for the African Americans and Mexicans faced a system of extremely legal restriction, specially blacks people with the system knows as the Jim Crow, the violent and the constants abuse of people human rights and dignity were painful for the rest of humans, who believe in life. The southern oppression of white people it was hard because one can see the separation of people. This …show more content…
After the period of the United States civil War, African Americans became free from slavery. Therefore, plantation owners and African Americans made an arrangement, in which the owner of the land would supply the land with mule, plow, seed, and other necessities and they will work in order to stay in the land and them offering to share the crop and pay from the profits if the worker produce it.
The Spanish American War as a continuation of manifest destiny it was different because the new idea it was of grew in power and expansion of the land. However, at the beginning the idea it was that God told them to occupied new western land. First of all, Africans and Mexicans were restricted in the law of “separate but equal” For the most part, the use of government power it was very well develop between the two groups. As Africans and Mexicans the lower race and the whites the upper race. For example a political action it was Lynching in order to demonstrate who is own charge, and cause fear to the lower race.
The political, military and economic power it was very well develop in America extending authority over people and lands. One can compare this idea with the imperialism mentality of Monroe Doctrine because he believe that power can be taken as a form of
Although the Monroe Doctrine did aid in American expansion, other factors like Manifest Destiny and the desire for more power assisted in this expansion because Americans dreamed to spread their ideas from ocean to ocean. The Monroe Doctrine was created to keep the foreign countries from getting involved in American problems because the European colonies continued to get involved in their affairs, which threatened the Americans because they had gained their independence from Great Britain and did not the European powers getting involved with their affairs. The establishment of the Monroe Doctrine pushed the European powers out of our affairs and blocked them from expanding further by threatening war. (Document E).
Since the founding of the United States the Monroe doctrine was one of the first foreign policy disagreements in history. The Colonies began to establish themselves as an independent nation that could dominate world affairs. Initiated by James Monroe, the Monroe Doctrine was formed in alliance with Britain to stop Latin America from colonizing in the northern hemisphere. The doctrine was a cornerstone of American Foreign policy by setting the political precedent that American will not let European powers oppress them, socially by becoming the “police of the world”, and by learning how to cultivate positive relationships.
When America was just starting out, they needed a way to protect their land from the colonization of other countries. President James Monroe devised a policy that would not only warn Europeans not to interfere with American land, but would also show that America was powerful. This policy is known as the Monroe Doctrine.
When the Monroe Doctrine was first implemented many Americans felt a sense of duty. They felt obligated to protect lands near their country who also wanted the same dream Americans once had. Independence. However as time went on America slowly became a country hungry for power, materials, and most of all land. Resorting to using cheap tricks and methods to provoke another country to go into a war that they will surely lose against the United States. Due to this, the foreign policy actions the United States implemented did reflect the selfish imperialist ambitions they had due to the wars they got into, America’s belief that it was their “destiny” to gain land, and the cunning tricks they used to take land from an independent nation
After the Civil War, African Americans were free but with no place to live in or to work at, they settled with their former ‘masters’. African Americans were technically free, but no one wanted to hire a colored man, so they were put on crop lien work contracts. These contracts allowed African Americans to work and gain a ‘share’ of the harvest. Sounds like a deal right? Wrong. At the end of the harvest a black man would receive his share but the
With European conquest spreading throughout the world, the US as a growing nation needed political influence and military influence to protect themselves from imperialism. In the early 1800s, Latin America had been establishing their freedom from the Spanish empire, and the US decided to strengthen its power in the region. After acknowledging some of the first Latin American countries, President James Monroe announced the foreign policy, the Monroe Doctrine. President Monroe’s new policy followed three main ideas: no European colonization in the American continents, the US would not meddle with European affairs, and if the Europe did intervene in American matters then it would be considered as an act of war. Despite the lack of US military
After the civil war ended in 1865, the north declared the slaves to be free in the South. This took effect on December 18, 1865. The only thing was, slaves did not know how to read or write. This cased a decreases in the economy of the South. The white southerners took advantage to this and started sharecropping. Sharecropping is when the landowners proved the land, tools, home, and supplies. The African Americans had to work on the land though. African Americans had to pay almost like a rent, but a fine to live there. If the crops did not grow one year you got behind and had to work longer on the land. Also the place where you bought the seed were most likely owned by our landowner. The landowner would do this to keep you in debt, so you are
It was clear to people in the late 1800s that the Civil War caused many national problems along with problems within the union. However, the Civil War assuaged many problems for the country. For example, slavery was abolished, the supremacy of the national government had been confirmed, and secession had been proved false. Some people may believe that the main reason why the congress’ reconstruction efforts to ensure equal rights to the freedmen failed was because virtually no one in America thought blacks were equal to whites. Basically it was because people still have racial thoughts; slaves didn’t get to fully acquire the meaning and prerogatives of their rights; in other words they were uneducated.
During reconstruction, blacks were no longer forced to work as slaves however they still needed to work to support themselves and their families. Not many blacks had skills outside of farming so most worked the lands of the wealthy white landowners but not as slaves. They had the right to do whatever they wanted and the landowners could do nothing about it. Wealthy landowners still needed work hands and blacks needed an income so former slaveholders established the sharecropping system. Land owned by a white person would be farmed by black families and they shared the crop yield. This often resulted in the white person taking more than their share and the black families struggled to support themselves. Sharecropping did little to help economic advancement for blacks and was a way the white man could prevent blacks from making enough money
Many of them being former slaves, they had very little formal schooling, in any. As a result, the system of sharecropping, in which a person agreed to share their agricultural yield with another person in exchange for land and private accommodations, became popular. However, this system, allowed the former Confederate landholders to acquire a steady workforce that was locked into a system that was near-slavery. As mentioned before, Jim Crow laws did not alleviate African-Americans' condition by providing them with goods or services, but only worsened their
African Americans were a very important addition to the American Civil War such as fighting and spying for both the north and the south sides. The American Civil War was a war fought in the United States between the North and South states. The war was from 1861-1865 and was because the South wanted to establish itself as a separate nation. The northern states were called the Union and the southern states were called the Confederate. Between the north and south states were the Border States, which did not belong to either of the sides. The Border States included Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri. In the north, slavery did not exist but the south was the opposite. In the war, the north and south states fought against each other while the Border States were neutral. Before the war and during the war, African Americans were treated very unfairly compared to white people. This essay will examine how African Americans were treated before, during and after the Civil War.
Throughout history, racial conflict and segregation have impacted African Americans in many ways. The end of the civil war led to African Americans gaining their freedom. Unfortunately, racial conflict and discrimination continued long after the Civil War. What was the difference in treatment between the South and West in regards to racial conflict and segregation? People in the South were firm believers in African Americans having little to no freedom. Many efforts were made to fight racial conflict and discrimination. Looking at racial conflict, let’s compare and contrast the South versus the North’s treatment of African Americans.
The post-Civil War South was left in shambles. The economy was wrecked, the people were divided, and the government could not keep up with the chaos on both political sides. Due to the division, President Lincoln was shot, the Ku Klux Klan arose, and agriculture plummeted. The greatest lesson is American’s fought for justice and overtime American’s of color are getting the respect they deserve. Our country was drastically crippled by the Civil-War, however, without it, our country would not be as strong, diverse, and equal rights for
After the slaves were freed in 1863, the South had to make changes to supply labor for the farming. Many shady practices by the white man occurred because of this. Sharecropping and crop liens were developed to keep the black man somewhat under their control. Since freed slaves had no money and no place to live, land holders would allow a tenant to live on their property and worked the land in exchange for a share of the crop produced, also known as sharecropping. The crop lien system was a developed to allow farmers to receive goods such as food, supplies, and seeds to be paid for after the crop was produced. This kept the black man and poor white farmers in a constant form of debt.
White farmers in the South and Midwest faced many problems after the Civil War, economically, politically, and socially. Many farmers had a system of cultivating unimproved land, and then selling it for a profit before moving farther West. However, after the Civil War, many states had no increase or barely an increase in land value. Thus, farmers using this process were no longer earning a profit. In other states, the land value did increase greatly. However, with the coming of income taxes and the raise in property taxes, these farmers still suffered. In addition, there was a lot of tension between railroad companies and farmers because railroad companies were overcharging farmers for the transportation of crops. However, because of a monopoly,
