Kinda odd, after a shark attack normally people would be scared when they lose a leg to one of those predators of the deep. But, there’s a magazine article known as “Shark Attack Survivor” where a 13 year old girl named Bethany Hamilton doesn’t seemed fazed that her life has changed forever.
Reasons why she feels this way? Well she has high confidence saying “I was not afraid…” “... My whole mind was concentrated on catching a wave” (Shark Attack Survivor pg. 8). The 13 year old girl fell off her board many times, but she was still going determine to catch a wave, and to her luck she did.

One day she was laying there mesmerizing, and all of a sudden the flashing of her watch or something attracted the 15ft tiger shark. When the shark seen the flashing, it then came up from the depth of the sea and bit her arm off, and left her surf board with the imprint of the sharks bite. While the shark was attacking she called out for help and her dad showed up tied her up and pulled her to the beach to safety. There she and her dad waited to the ambulance got there. Not many people get attacked by sharks,but unfortunately for Bethany Hamilton she did. Bethany who was only 13 at the time was with her friend and her friend’s family surfing. She was happily on her board when a 15 foot tiger shark started watching her. She didn’t notice when the shark jumped and bite her arm off. According to Biography.com, “lost approximately 60 percent of her blood following the attack.” This is important because that shows she had about 40% of what she originally had and still survived. Many people can die by losing that much blood, but Bethany didn’t. Also in an article published by the New York Times, it says, “Her friend's father used a T-shirt and a urethane surfboard leash to stop the bleeding, possibly saving her life.”

While lying on her board,she suddenly felt intense pressure on her left arm and was pulled back and forth for a few seconds.
