Sharks are a unique and aggressive fish that are an endangered species because of the human threat. They are not made for captivity or to be show pieces. No animal should be kept in captivity especially anything aggressive as sharks. Sharks of any kind should not be kept in captivity because they need their freedom, they will get depressed, and they are natural hunters. Sharks need their freedom because aquariums cannot provide adequate and appropriate space they need to wander around. They are not made for an aquarium. They can swim up to hundreds of kilometers in a day, but they cannot do all their wandering in a small tank. They can’t reach their speed in a tank because of their fear of hitting the glass walls. Sharks are not able to make sharp turns so they would need no obstacles in able to do so. When sharks are kept in captivity they will get depressed and stressed out because they know they’re not in their natural environment. The sharks that migrate hundreds of miles will get confused and at some point they will become really aggressive …show more content…
They are expensive animals to feed. They will kill and attack the other animals in the tank when they are not supposed to. Which makes it expensive for the aquarium’s because they have to refill the tank with other sea creatures. If there is other sharks in the tank they will sometimes attack and kill them. Sharks usually eat live prey and the aquariums can’t provide live animals for the shark to eat. It is expensive and difficult for them to do. They don’t like being fed by humans and they don’t like food that is already killed. Most sharks kept in captivity will refuse to eat. When sharks hit their nose on the glass in the tank it makes them lose their appetite which can give them a greater risk to die. When the aquarium staff provides them already dead and frozen fish they don’t get all the nutrients that they need to stay
I How many of yall like Sharks? Most people are deadly scared of sharks, and some just simply do not like them. Well, I am not here to inform to like sharks, but here to inform you of the issues that shark face today.
Arising over 350 million years ago, the shark species has been labeled as a human devourer. Now, with the increase in human population, the demand for shark meat, fins, and cartilage are at an all time high; therefore, the existence of the shark is becoming a concern (Budker 1971). Individuals are conditioned to think of sharks as a negative aspect to the environment, which is prolonging the effort to save shark species from becoming extinct. With that in mind, some private as well as national organizations have accepted the challenge of educating and informing people about the existence of the shark specie and its importance to the sea.
People say that keeping orca’s in captivities is not a problem, yet they do not realize that, orcas are also human beings. There are several reasons, why keeping these thirty-feet long creatures, in captivities is a problem. One of them, which are the tank, which is too small, compared to ocean where they can swim freely. One the other side, in captivities, the space is limited. Comparatively, to how they swim out in the wild “orcas can swim up to 100 miles per day- a phenomenal amount, in comparison to the exercise they receive in captivity”(Cronin). While being in captivity, orca has to keep swimming in circles or floats. Out “In the wild, killer whales typically travel in pods of between five and 30”(Melissa). In captivities there are only few whales, so it makes them more aggressive toward one another. This sometimes can be lead to danger by killing each other for fighting to gain power of the tank.
The Shark’s place in the marine ecosystem is as a predator at the top of the food chain as there is no natural predator of sharks. Sharks are not very fastidious about what they eat but their diet generally consists of seal, crab, squid, lobster and fish. If sharks were to become extinct there would be an ecological cost. The marine life that is the shark’s food source would start to overpopulate with nothing to prey on it. One possible reason that sharks are coming closer to shores is that their natural food source is diminishing due to overfishing by humans. To stop sharks from being too near to popular swimming locations, fishermen need to expand or change their hunting areas.
Sharks, unlike your average fish, play a different role in the marine ecosystem. While being at the top of the food chain at most times; sharks help to keep other populations of fish with the appropriate size, and by doing that, they also keep other fish and organisms healthy. Over the years, sharks developed an inter-dependency with their ecosystem. They many times eat the fish that are already more debilitated. By doing that, the amount of healthy fish population subdues the debilitated, which means that mainly the healthiest fish will reproduce, originating a generation of healthier and stronger fish. Another impactful role is controlling the spreading of diseases and impeding outbreaks, which also makes a healthier
Sharks are one of the oceans top predators. They vary in size from the extremely small dwarf shark, to the colossal whale shark. Sharks can be found all across the world’s oceans, from the tropic waters of Hawaii to the sub zero temperatures in the Artic oceans. Of the hundreds of sharks a select few species have actually been recorded in the Artic. Of these few, only three of them spend the majority of their time in these harsh, freezing waters. These sharks are the Greenland, Pacific Sleeper, and Salmon sharks.
Many people call sharks beasts, terrible things, killers, but they are not. For instance sharks need to eat to just like humans. Sharks can eat all day. When sharks eat too much they throw it up and eat more. Sharks fend for themselves when they are hungry they might find other sharks and eat them. Sharks eat squid, shrimp, sardines, tuna. Besides sharks can never stop moving so they don't’ stay in one spot. Lastly sharks might look mean but they are
and they are dangerous in captivity. It is clear that whales should not be held in captivity. Whales
Sharks do not have skeletons, but just cartilage. Also their jaws can move independently without any of their other body parts. It allows them to have a stronger hold on their prey. Sharks have oil in their liver that allow them to eat less often. So when they eat us up, they must be really hungry. Their fins help them feel vibrations of other creatures so that they can get into position to pounce on their prey.
Sharks are interesting fish because they don’t really mean to eat humans. Everyone says how scary they are but I think if you stay out of their territory they wouldn't feel threatened. In some places sharks have become an important tourist
They do this because of the limited amount of space on the ship. Shark liver oil is used as a source of vitamin A, and some people believe that the cartilage and liver of a shark are extremely beneficial to human health. In earlier days the sharks' teeth-like scales on their skin was used as fine sandpaper, and when the scales were removed from their skin it made fine leather. This leather was used for making shoes, belts and handbags. Each year thousands of sharks are killed unintentionally due to nets used to catch different types of fish, and sometimes humans kill sharks because they fear them (Springer and Gold, 1989). All of these activities have resulted in many shark species being in danger of extinction.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s article “The Brutal Business of Shark Finning” reminds us that sharks play a key role in the ocean as both predators and scavengers.
Sharks have a very different breathing system than most animals that live in or on this earth. Sharks also receive oxygen from the water through gills, yet, unlike fish, sharks do
Well, at the end of the day people can think what they want but if you ever see a shark you will see that they are not trying to hurt anybody they are just trying to be their true selves. This is why we should protect sharks, because most are harmless, not dangerous, and most of them are already dying because people are killing them, this is why we should protect the sharks no matter what. So whatever you do to the sharks just know that the sharks are not trying to hurt anybody you are just
Sharks have been in our oceans for almost 450 million years. Those millions of years of evolution have allowed many different shark species to develop abilities, and to become perfect predators.
