Shipwreck “Help” screamed Casey as the walls of her cabin started cracking and the water came gushing in. What was happening why hadn't her family come back to get her, why was there water coming in from the cabins crumbling walls, why were the walls of her cabin crumbling? Only then did it hit her, the ship was sinking! When she realized what was happening she ran to the door only to find that it was stuck. She pounded on it for what seemed like forever. “Help! Help!” she yelled again but this time somebody came. “Hello! You need to tell me what cabin you’re in” the voice called. “315!” she replied competing with the sound of the crashing waves. She took a step back as the door smashed down in front of her and the girl said quickly “Hi, I’m Tash. And the ship’s going down. We need to get to the last lifeboat” As Casey tried to take all this in, all she could say was “Where's my family?” “They’re already safely on the lifeboats,” Tash said as they ran down the hall dodging the falling pieces of plaster from the crumbling walls and ceiling. They finally reached the boat panting and sweaty. “Well, here it is.” Tash said as they got in the boat. She picked up the oars and began after the long line of orange boats. “Where are we going?” Asked Casey “When the ship started sinking we were near the south of Australia so I think somewhere around southern Melbourne.” said Tash “What is Melbourne like?” Casey asked looking down at the water “I’m not sure I’ve only ever
The Shipman’s Tale, one of the many tales in Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, is exactly suited to the Shipman’s personality and profession as given in “The Prologue.” The shipman is described by Chaucer in the prologue as very sneaky, deceitful, and even pirate-like. The Shipman’s tale matches his personality and profession because The Shipman’s Tale is one of trickery and con. The monk in the tale tricks both the merchant and the merchant’s wife out of their money. He also uses his relationship with the merchant to his advantage, because he knows the merchant would never suspect him of having sex with his wife. The shipman is also portrayed in the prologue to have no sense of remorse or feelings of sorrow.
I stand and stare in disbelief as the car’s bonnet is crumpled into the bulky metal pole on the side of the road. My limbs are numb and I am drenched from head to toe. The glistening droplets continuously drip off the tip of my nose as I realize how much trouble I’m going to get into. The wind wails around me as if it’s saying “you’re going to be in so much trouble”. I suddenly get back into the car and attempt to reverse the car so no one will see the car rammed into the power pole. Mum and Dad's pristine new car. Scratched. Dented. Ruined.
“Do you know when the next boat is returning to Toronto? Not that I’m not enjoying this, it’s just that I can’t disappear without a trace, Florence would worry,” she said.
Many in the world struggle to keep sight of who they are in a society that pushes its expectations upon people. Everyone has different ideas and experiences dealing with the world around them, and depending on who one is, simply staying true to one’s core identity can be a challenge. As Ralph Waldo Emerson, an accomplished poet, wrote, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” I agree, as constant exposure to a world that prefers a person in a different form gets exhausting, and it takes true strength to persevere in spite of that. Whale Rider, Things Fall Apart, and Danger of a Single Story all provide solid evidence that the environment around a person affects their
Is it possible for children and young adults to live in a lifestyle that is formulated upon the idea of libertine rather than structured liberty? “The Parable of the Ship”, found in The Republic, by Plato and written at around 380 BC, is a perfect example to show how in a situation with no control, wise decisions are not predictable. In a situation in which too much power is granted to those who do not know how to manage it, utter chaos and disorder may be the product. In the same way, when school districts and or universities grant too much power and authority to the attending students, rather than to the teachers or instructors, the students may feel entitled to more rights and benefits than what they should receive. If the people that are
“I guess we could come. It’s about time that we got off this tiny island.”sighed Rudder.
It all started going wrong for John, Sam and Joseph, when they started to hear sputtering from the engine's core. Their stomachs dropped as they started to plummet to the ground. It all happened in a flash as the cargo from the plane fell out of the back. The plane makes contact with ocean and they soon realize the plane is starting to fill up with water. “Are you guys okay?!” shrieked John. “Yeah I'm fine.” replied Sam. “Guys!!” Yelled Joseph. “I am trapped under the seat, and I can't move my leg.” “Were coming.” Yelled Sam and John, but just then the plane broke in two and they lost sight of Joseph. Sam and John were panicked, but had to get out of the plane so they broke down the plane's door and grabbed two life jackets and bolted out. The current was strong, but the adrenaline overcome Sam and John while they were swimming for their lives.
Suddenly an incredible crack resonated throughout the ship, making everyone shudder. This sudden realisation of the imminent sinking sent everyone into panic. Many people made their way to the storage holds, grabbing as much gold as they could possibly carry. Others held their family in a soothing embrace, slowly lowering with the ship. Some jumped overboard, swimming away from the sinking boat, but quickly drowned in the freezing
“No, but the crew is making the final preparations as we speak with the remaining supplies brought aboard shortly. Soldiers have been carrying supplies down to the hold all morning, and I suspect we will set sail within the hour.”
“I can’t wait to go home to my children and my wife!” Said one of the shipmates.
“The sun is rising we need to leave soon,” Terra said. Her sisters nodded and continued to get ready to
“Nobody has ever survived a mission to the inside. What makes you think we can manage it this time?”
The discovery of a 3,000-year-old shipwreck, complete with riches and raw materials. The trading vessel was carrying an extremely valuable cargo of tin and hundreds of copper ingots from the Continent when it sank. Archaeologists have described the vessel, which is thought to date back to around 900BC, as being a "bulk carrier" of its age. The copper and tin would have been used for making bronze not only weapons, but also tools, jewelry, ornaments and other items. Archaeologists believe the copper and possibly the tin was being imported into
What was it like being shipwrecked? While the ship was going down, did you think you were going to die? If I was on a sinking ship I would panic and not know what to do. The first thing I would do is find the captain and find out if there were row boats on the deck we could get on to get away from the sinking ship. What did you do though? Did something knock you out? Did you fall off the ship? So many questions! How did you manage not to die? Once you washed up onto shore in Illyria, what was your first impression? Was there a big kingdom you saw? How long did it take you until you told yourself Sebastian was dead? Based off what I know, you mourned for a long time. Losing someone very close to you that you love unconditionally
Smiling, Gene stood as the train horn blew. “Time to go,” he said hugging Charlie one last time. “You can do this,” he reminded her as she took Brody by the hand and handed him off to the porter who helped him up the stairs to the car. Waving goodbye to Gene, Charlie followed with Hannah in her arms.
