Sutton Foster was born on March 18, 1975 in Georgia, but was raised in Troy, Michigan. She left high school before graduating, and attended a year of college at Carnegie Mellon, before leaving to act full-time. Eventually, she earned her high school diploma, and Ball State University gave her an honorary Doctorate several years later. She is now part of their faculty as a part-time teacher and advisor to the Theatre and Dance Department. She has been acting professionally since 1996, when she started on Broadway as the understudy for Sandy Dumbrowski in Grease. Foster has two Tonys, both for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, that she earned in 2002 and 2011. The first was for her role as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern
