Valentina could easily discern the searching eyes which met with her the moment that Thea turned her head. The way she peered through those brilliant feminine lashes was a telltale sign of allure; of attraction. It wasn't as if she had been trying to avoid such an outcome, rather she was counting on it. While she wanted to talk to her sister, try to smooth things out with her - she also wanted to draw her in, relax her, make her feel a little more at ease. While her posture did nothing to show any sort of relaxation or trust, Val knew that was simply how Thea was. She could barely trust the ground beneath her feet, and really, how could the long-haired girl blame her? She lived a life in which every move she made could lead to another …show more content…
You don't accumulate this sort of wealth overnight, nor do you gain the sort of network that she had in just two years. No, it simply wasn't possible. But then how... how was Valentina still so young? It lie in their blood, but it also had a lot to do with the distortion of time and space in a majority of the places she visited.
Scientists had a theory, a theory that dictated that if an astronaut were to spend ten years out in space, revolving the Earth from the furthest distance without leaving the gravitational pole, that they would age those ten years, while the people back down on Earth would age maybe fifteen, twenty years or more. It had a good deal to do with how gravity effected the yeast in the human body for one, but it also had to do with the speed at which one traveled in relation to the Earth.
'If you travel at the speed of light, the years will melt away into minutes. Eons will become centuries, and centuries... mere months.' Yule, a Waybearer - a guardian of time - explained this to her once. 'But you,' continued the omniscient being, 'you are special. If you move at the speed of light, you will not age at all.' Why... Why not?! What if I want to?! Her questions... They were answered with a terrible knowledge that she wished she'd never, ever fallen victim to. 'You are not human. Your father, your sister -- you. You are more... so much more than you could ever even know. You have the rest of time itself to understand what you are, but I will

Being isolated from one's peers is not an easy thing to handle. Rayona spends her days alone, wondering about her mother and blaming herself for her troubles. This enhances her feelings of inadequacy. Rayona pulls inside herself by keeping her worries private. When others inquire about Ray's condition, she conceals her problems with lies. By lying she dismisses her difficulties; denies their existence to herself. Inside, she is falling apart; the stress she has to deal with brings her near to a mental collapse.

I was born May, 30th 1989 at Wadley Medical in Texarkana, Ar. I was born to Kym Crispino from Queens, NY and William Lee of Hot Springs, Ar. My parents were young when they had me. We were very poor at times, but they always made sure I had what I needed. I was an only child, but grew up around plenty of cousins. I have lived in Texarkana my entire life. My parents split up when I was twelve, and my mother and I moved out into the country on a dead-end street with no children in the area, I became very sheltered and a little socially awkward.

This passage gives the reader an initial insight on the central conflict in the novel, Tita’s fight for freedom from Mama Elena’s suppression. Mama Elena is portrayed to have characteristics which resemble to that of the stereotypically domineering, abusive male figure. Tita must tread waters very carefully when she is anywhere near Mama Elena, otherwise she would be beaten for any reason. Yet as the novel progresses, Tita undergoes a change due to exposure and desire. With the introduction of Pedro (Tita’s lover who ends up marrying Tita’s sister), Tita experiences new emotions, desire and lust. Previous to meeting Pedro, Tita never felt the desire to defy Mama Elena, yet her new found love - lust - for Pedro gave her a reason to rebel. The introduction of the emotion of desire, a need sparked the flame of change in Tita. This concept of women in oppression finding something to strive for, even at a risk, gives women courage. As the age, old saying goes ‘if they can do it so can I’. By creating a relatable scenario, Esquivel hopes to show women that even if the task seems too great to overcome, they
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) was enacted in 1986 as a part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985. It not only threatens, but also breaks through. Betrayed by love once in her life, she nevertheless seeks it in the effort to fill the lonely void; thus, her promiscuity. But to adhere to her tradition and her sense of herself as a lady, she cannot face this sensual part of herself. She associates it with the animalism of Stanley's lovemaking and terms it “brutal desire”. She feels guilt and a sense of sin when she does surrender to it, and yet she does, out of intense loneliness. By viewing sensuality as brutal desire she is able to disassociate it from what she feels is her true self, but only at the price of an intense inner conflict. Since she cannot integrate these conflicting elements of desire and gentility, she tries to reject the one, desire, and live solely by the other. Desperately seeking a haven she looks increasingly to fantasy. Taking refuge in tinsel, fine clothes, and rhinestones, and the illusion that a beau is available whenever she wants him, she seeks tenderness and beauty in a world of her own making.
Being a partner is "a strong motivating factor," "You're not just an employee; you are an owner of the business. That makes you feel differently about everything."(Tom Miller department store director at JMP)
I am reminded of a parable as to what happens when one desires to beat time. A childless couple approached the Perfect Master for his grace to be blessed with progeny. The Master who had the power to know the past, present and the future, advised them that they were not lucky in this respect in this birth. They pleaded for His grace and the Perfect Master warned them of the consequences of taking liberty with the laws of nature. Yet, the couple was persistent. “So be it”, said the Perfect Master and after nine months a baby-girl was born to the couple, but strangely, her right was folded and the child had a natural cell phone (made of flesh and blood) in her grip. She was not able to stretch her hands. “This child is part of the generation that we are going to get after ninety years, and I have pulled a soul that was due to take birth then, for your present benefit”, said the Perfect Master. “I have picked up one soul from that lot, and you are thus specially graced”. Similarly, Anne Bronte was able to visualize in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall the characteristics of the twenty-first generation.
