Good afternoon ladies and gentle today I stand before you in the aftermath of Mike Baird's decision to ban greyhound racing in NSW. The topic has generated much debate, was the ban fair and just or was it an overreaction and unnecessary? Baird has since reversed his original decision to ban greyhound racing and has decided to give the industry another chance. In my opinion this was the right thing to do. Not only is greyhound racing a multimillion dollar industry but also creates many jobs, engages fans of all ages and is an integral part of many country towns across Australia. However it's not all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to the industry it does have its problems including live baiting and greyhound euthanasia.
First of all, certain mixed breeds can be more intelligent than purebreds. This is a result of who the parents of the mixed breed is; some examples of the smarter breeds seen are German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, etc. since these are types of canines used in the police force and special aid programs. Secondly, when choosing a dog as a future companion, looks and health isn’t usually the very first thing owners-to-be look for. Just like when we choose our friends, personalities are usually the first things people look for to be around; the same goes for how people usually choose their dogs-to-be. Finally, depending on what the mixed dog breed is mixed with, their interactions with other animals can vary. Certain breeds see a mouse and refuse to touch it, others immediately become violent towards it; this is what causes certain mixed breeds to act the way they do around the animals they may interact

A couple of years ago, Australia watched on from their tellies as ‘Four Corners’ unraveled the darkest of secrets in modern day greyhound racing. We exposed the gruesome sport for what it is, a lower class ‘Melbourne Cup’ which sends a clear and undeniable statement that the GRV (Greyhound Racing Victoria) have a lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport. The allegations that live baiting is used during training and the corruption surrounding the policing of the sport, further supports the idea that greyhound racing should indefinitely be banned in all states across Australia. Greyhound racing is completely out dated and will leave future generations puzzled at why we encouraged the continuation of this disgusting sport.
