Pit bulls: killers, or lovers? Innocent, or deadly? When someone mentions the dog pit bull, what comes to mind? A killing machine or most loyal companion a person can have? In my eyes, they are the most loyal companion you can have. Could you imagine being brought into this world with no voice other than that of your breed already being pictured as destructive fighting dog and human killer? Not only that, each year, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized, in which 40 percent are pit bulls. That’s almost 600,000 every year for just having this name and being brought up incorrectly by the owners. Then there was this puppy that came into my life and shined light on the word “pit bulls” In addition to this, weeks later, I found myself at a shelter looking for a dog. As I walked down the hallway I saw this dog that popped out at me. He was so little, dark brown, big bold brown eyes, and all white paws, sitting there looking at me waging his tail. He even resembled a dog I had in the past. So I asked the lady to see him. When she brought him out we played and had a great bond like I have never experienced with any of my dogs. My family was also at ease because he was the only puppy to interact without …show more content…
It was obvious that moving back to my mom’s was a mistake. I was stuck and there was nothing I could do to get out of my situation. The problem was because my dog was a pit bull, and they have bad reputations, he couldn’t have a home with me any longer. My good neighbor Vernon, who had been raising and breeding pit bulls within his lifetime in Virginia, overheard the problem I had. Instead of sending him to a shelter I wanted to make sure he was with someone I could trust. Montana now has a forever happy home with a family in Virginia, where he gets treated as amazing as he would treat

Pit Bulls have many obscure features about them. Their lives and what they can deal with in them. The dog that probably has the worst wrap based on what they can actually be, causes them to be neglected and harmed by people they thought were supposed to love them. This very breed of dog a lot of people hate can also be the most loyal to you.
Pit bulls have a bad name because of events that have occurred in the past. This bad reputation is provoking pit bull bans all over the states. “In recent years, the breed has been unfairly villainized as overly aggressive and dangerous” (Morral). We are not giving the dogs enough credit for being such great companions. Pit bulls are being judged for many of things; their past, recent activities, all of the dog fighting. “Despite their gallant history, pit bulls faced an uphill battle in gaining official recognition” (Morral). In reality pit bull bans are not necessary anywhere.
Pit Bulls are known worldwide for being inherently dangerous and extremely vicious, but according to the American Temperament Test Society, Inc. 86.8% of American Pit Bull Terriers have passed their temperament tests better than Collies, Golden Retrievers, and Beagles. Many people don’t know that the term “bully breed” refers to more than forty breeds that hail from the same root breed. The history of the Pit Bull goes back to about the nineteenth century, during that time they were used to protect livestock, families, and even children as nannies (the Canine Journal). Today Pit Bulls are used as therapy dogs, police dogs, and of course a simple companion. Many myths about pit bulls circulate, which scares society into believing that they are dangerous to us and our families the question of banning Pit Bulls has been hotly discussed around the world, but banning Pit Bulls will not stop illegal breeding, fighting and distribution of Pit Bulls, other dogs from biting, and the problem will grow. The question of whether or not Pit Bulls should be banned is a hot topic in recent society, but the real question is should Pit Bulls be punished for the actions of their owners, or should laws be enforced at a higher degree.
Pit Bulls have a bad reputation because of negative media coverage that depicts the entire breed as being vicious attack dogs that are incapable of demonstrating love and kindness to humans when in reality, most of the pit bull population is composed of dogs with teddy bear personalities that would lick your face off before they would even consider biting someone. Pit bulls have been given a bad reputation over the years as untrustworthy, ill-tempered dogs, whose behavior may transform at an indiscriminate moment. While the slowly expanding owners of this breed continuously fight that reputation with cute posts, blogs, videos, etc. of their beloved furry baby just being your everyday companion. My Pit bull however, is not doing much for the cause. Her name is Lexi, she is a ten year old black and bronze brindle that has grown into a jealous, stubborn dog that has become disobedient in her old age. My dog, Lexi is on the fence for a bad reputation.
Did you know that pit bulls were one of the most popular dog breeds in America? Well, today pit bulls are considered either vicious or dangerous. I think that not all pit bulls are dangerous like a lot of people think since they can save lives, other breeds can be just like the pit bull, and they are over-reported on the news. First of all, pit bulls are over-reported on the news intentionally. That causes people to think that all pit bulls are dangerous.
If you have a dog you can understand that they are protective, territorial, and sometimes even temperamental, but they need a best friend, to be taken care of, and they need a lot of love. Now, if you have a pitbull you know they can be a little more demanding, they need more than other dog breeds. Thanks to people who breed dogs for fighting have given pitbulls a bad name. Mostly everyone thinks that that is all pitbulls are, fighters, but they are so much more than that. Pitbulls are beautiful, compassionate, trustworthy dogs who have made a difference in many people’s lives, some bad but most good. Many people cannot stand pit bulls, and some people even hate them, even though many people believe they made good service dogs, some people allow pit bulls around their small children, and all pit bulls protect their owners.
First off, Pit bull is not one certain breed but a group of different breeds which includes the American Pit Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and lastly the Staffordshire Terrier. So let’s stick to the American Pit Bull as it is the most popular amongst Pit bulls. But no matter which breed I choose the results don’t change, no breed is a bad breed, there are only bad owners. Pit bulls by some, are believed to be violent, vicious creatures, however they are actually friendly, loving animals. There only violent at times because of their past. Pit bulls were bread for their fighting ability. There are lots of reports of pit bull attacks but are they really meaning to do it?
MAIN IDEA #2: One of the biggest preconceived notions about the pit bull is that they are the most dangerous dogs in the world that run around wild-eyed and blood thirsty. They have been improperly labeled as vicious creatures that are incapable of love and

Owning a pit bull in today’s day and age has one of two reactions: Either the person loves them or is terrified of them. There are so many myths about Pit Bulls and they are just that. Myths. Some of the myths that surround pit bulls are that they have “lock jaw” and they have a killer instinct that does not stop at just killing other animals. Pit bull advocates, such as myself, know that Pit Bulls have always been known as the “nanny dog” throughout history because of how much they love children and their loyalty to their families. Mean or vicious dogs come from ignorant, irresponsible owners. The bottom line is that not all pit bulls are bad.
Pit bulls are the most misunderstood dog breeds in the world. When people hear the word pit bull they automatically think of dogs fighting and attacking. When people say "pit bull" they're usually referring to a range of breeds and, often, a mixed-breed dog. (Lawrence, C Louisville Magazine Feb 2007) People think they are a very dangerous breed of dog. Because of this, some areas do not allow pit bulls and breeds like them. Pit bulls are the leading culprit of dog bites in America, but on the other hand, they are the gentlest dogs people will ever meet. The National Canine Temperament Testing Association
