Hello, I’m Sarah Nicholson and welcome to A Current Affair. We begin with a story of love, desire and murder. For the first time, the tragic story of Jess Smith and her murderous stepfather will be uncovered.
Michelle Smith was a single mum of four when she first met Tom. Jess her eldest, was just eight years old. They married and became an instant family. But it wasn’t long before the relationship began to unravel. Tom Macbeth was a controlling, manipulative and power hungry man, and Michelle was both in love with whim and afraid.
An eager desire to own what I see
An insatiable urge to keep you with me
I hunger for everything that appeals to me
I need to own everything that can be achieved
The silence of seaside, the noise of town

From the beginning of the play, the relationship between Macbeth and his wife seem to be the expected partnership in romance, however, as the play progresses, our expectations seems to change for the worst. We are informed that Macbeth desires to be King of Scotland and initially, his wife appears to be supportive of him as a wife should be but her response to this changes quite drastically as we read further on.
Lady Macbeth had a very powerful hold over Macbeth. Just by questioning his valor she could shift Macbeth’s whole thought process and second-guessing of the murder of Duncan (Booth, 24), and he allows it because he cannot bear to disappoint her. His love for her and need for her approval is what ultimately leads him to commit each and every one of his crimes. She is the center of his world and if she does not see a problem in the murders than why should he. This is naïve ignorance caused by a blindness that is induced by love, and that is both heart breaking and tragic.
How the Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Changes and Develops During the Course of the Play
The first bloody child shows the collapse of familial order in Macbeth’s household. Lady Macbeth takes on more masculinity than Macbeth in the murder of Duncan. After Duncan has gone to sleep, Macbeth panicked and wanted to quit the business. Lady Macbeth gave the unsettling yet powerful speech to entice Macbeth:
Amanda and Tom share a familial relationship of mother and son. Williams depicts Amanda at first interpretation as overbearing, hypercritical and controlling. However, on further assessment, the audience is able to acknowledge a more admirable facet to her character: her evident persistence in trying to love her children. Through her attempts in perpetuating her youth and past glory, she distorts reality to fit her
Lady Macbeth is the wife to a brave and valiant soldier who is loved by many. To anyone looking into their marriage it seems perfect. They both love each other and are each others (quote about partner of greatness). Even though they love each other deeply, there is something missing. There are no babies crying, children playing in the yard, or first birthdays. There is no legacy for Lady Macbeth and her husband. Lady Macbeth fears thats she is not enough if she is not a mother and projects those fears about herself onto her
Firstly, Macbeth and Mark are involved in a romantic relationship that their ego destroys. Clearly, their thoughts are warped by the competition to be "exclusive" or superior. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth began with love and ended in love. Through all the bad endings and the terrible events that happened, they ended with Macbeth loving his wife after she passed away. Even though they had their falling out, he stilled held her and kissed her and loved her. She understand what happened to him and did not let go of him. Most people in her shoes would have walked out the door, or would have an affair.
In the story of Macbeth there are a myriad of themes that can be explored and analyzed within the text, which become distinct and unique in their own way. As the main character, Macbeth, goes through continuous conflict and self doubt based on the morality of his choices; other characters slowly get assorted within the chaos that ultimately changes and influences the scenes and murders that play out throughout the book. Lady Macbeth (Macbeth’s wife) can be attributed to most of her husband's actions as she calls his “manhood” and “pride” into question over and over again. Lady Macbeth manipulates her husband into murdering King Duncan and anyone else that threatens their power, which steadily begins to address her own morality as a human being. As the book continues, further on, a sense of guilt can be discovered as part of the aftermath of murdering Duncan.
Throughout history, many Shakespearean scholars and enthusiasts have examined the relationship between Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth. One objective purpose for closely examining their relationship is to determine who was acting as the greater evil of the pair or to determine if one could have acted without their partner in crime. Although many people view Lady Macbeth as the devoted wife who merely wished to help her husband gain control of the throne, it is Lady Macbeth who successfully manipulates her husband into committing murder by preying upon his ambitious flaw. The cruelty of Macbeth and his wife can be observed in multiple scenes throughout the play; however, there are two soliloquies which require a closer reading. Based on a closer reading of two separate soliloquies, one performed by each character, it can be seen that Lady Macbeth proves to be far from just an initiator in King Duncan’s murder. It is Lady Macbeth who proves to be crueler and more villainous than her husband, and it is Lady Macbeth who manipulates her husband thus turning him into the monstrous killer he becomes.
