Have you ever read the short story titled ‘There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella’ (by Fernando Sorrentino) ?
What do you think of the story?
As I read this short story in the beginning, the gist of what I have captured the narrator writing is whether the man with a strange habit does really exist or not. Or, if he did exist who was the man that was hitting the narrator in the story on the head without stopping. It sticks in my mind wondering who the strange man was to the narrator. Somehow, despite the agony of trying to understand the motive underlies the story; I was at first wondering what was the strange man had gone through…show more content… It’s kind of destiny of our life that we have to deal with, whether we like it or not. The habit that the strange man possessed signified the common scenario when it comes to compare about nature of life. When we are facing dilemma in our life, sometimes we tend to accept it, or just ignore it or even trying to blame others about what had happened and we might even trying to retaliate in a different way.
Even though the narrator was very deep upset when he was first encountered the strange man who has the odd habit some time 5 years ago, he was began to gradually get used to it and rather feels that the man can be good partner in some occasion. Anything in this world can be accustomed even it’s really strange in nature in the beginning and that’s how we learn about life. Likewise the narrator’s circumstance, whereby he initially was annoyed with the hit but gradually he was getting used to be hit. Moreover he can’t think of his life without being hit on the head with an umbrella by the strange man.
The narrator has put the story in a humorous way when I tried to imagine how funny to see a man being hit by an umbrella along the way. This story gave me a good impact on how to see things in this life. Somehow, life is funny in its own way. Sometimes, what we see is not what we really get. It makes me think that
