"Uncle Barnabas!" Tabbie cried, running up to a large man giving orders to the docking crew. The man turned towards her voice and smiled when he saw who had called, "Ah hello, you must be Tabitha Belcher aren't you?" Laurance frowned, "You haven't met each other yet?" "Ah, Laurance Nye, I didn't know you'd be gracing my vessel this evening." Barnabas stated, shaking Laurence's hand. "Neither did I," Laurance said, "but my friend Tabitha here told me you wanted to make her an apprentice on your ship." Barnabas nodded, "Aye, that's right. While I've never met her in person I've talked to her father quite a bit and he tells me of her magnificent engineering skills." He turned his grin on her, "So what do ya say, ready Tabbie be a sailor?" …show more content…

"May we meet the head engineer?" "Course," Barnabas replied, pointing towards the ship's hull, "He'll be down there. You'll know him when you meet his eye." Laurance frowned, he seemed to be doing quite a bit of that today, "What's that supposed to mean?" Barnabas winked, "You'll know." "Don't be such a grouch Lance." Tabbie tugged on his arm and descended down the stairs, "Let's go meet my new teacher." The two headed down to the surprisingly large hull. Tabitha lead the way. Choosing a seemingly random direction she advanced forward with excitement. "Do you even know where we're going?" Laurance asked, glancing around suspiciously. "Of course," Tabbie huffed, "I've studied the design of airships since I was little. I think I would know the way to the engine room." She looked over her shoulder at him, "Shouldn't you know all this stuff 'Mister Owner?'" Laurance gave an exaggerated snort, "Please, I'm so busy being important and rich that I couldn't possibly be bothered with normal people
