Technology in law enforcement will have its issues but with ShotSpotter the strengths in this emerging technology is how accurate the location was and how fast the detection of this program was. It also provides additional data like what kind of gun was shot and the direction of the shooting and provides officer safety. Since fourth of July did just past this program can distinguish between gunfire and firecrackers of a car backfiring which is a wonder thing because if not then officers would always be in those neighborhoods looks for shootings. The weaknesses of this program is that the cost of it ranges from $40-60,000 a year per square mile and if somebody was to be shot or shooting inside of a building with doors and windows closed the
Even though the Senate believes this bill will help solve the problem, it creates another major social problem, which is the high cost and maintenance of this equipment. Many police departments have already began making estimates of how much they will be spending a

Law enforcement agencies have been in a heated debate in the use of body cams by the surrounding communities because of the use of force incidents that have occurred in the media. Body cameras are the new age technology that allows law enforcement agencies to record encounters with the community. There are some positives aspects of law enforcement wearing body cams. The body cam allows the officer to interact with residents which will help to eliminate complaints about police behavior and the use of force encounters. The body cam gives video evidence of the decisions made by on-duty law enforcement in violent situations. This helps keep accountability of law enforcement and the ensure that the department and decreases liability. Because the
I think body cameras on police officers are worth the expense. Abby Phillips from the Washington Post says “At the 1 year memorial for Michael Brown,Tyrone Harris was supposedly armed with a 9mm Sig Sauer that was reported stolen last year so the cops opened fire on him and he is now in critical condition. His family and friends denied that he was armed.” (Phillips 1) We should have body cameras on police officers because it would show evidence of what actually happened at this crime scene and many others that are still being questioned. The cameras would basically show if there is any foul play from the cop and or if it was the actual suspects fault. Having the camera’s would end all of the questioning in police cases
This horrid event resulted in years of investigation to figure out what could have possibly caused a person to commit such a terrible murder. Our country dissected this event and found a lot of disturbing information. For instance, the two shooters had been plotting their attack strictly towards their classmates and teachers for about a year before everything went down. More investigation showed that the intended date for the massacre was April 19th, the fourth anniversary of the Oklahoma bombings. They were intrigued with this terroristic act and that's why their massacre was supposed to be a bombing instead of a shooting. However, their plans to gather ammunition fell through resulting in the massacre to happen a day later. Also, they found
Law enforcement has faced a lot of criticism regarding the relationship between the people with the inner communities. The change in law enforcement is now taking place in most departments across the country. In the next ten years the criminal justice system with implement body cameras for every officer. These cameras will change the face of law enforcement. First it will protect the officer from malicious prosecution for miss use of force. For example, the Michael Brown case in Ferguson Missouri involved a police shooting of an unarmed black male. In this case the officer use of deadly force was called into question, because some witnesses believed that the shooting was unlawful. Due to the lack of supportive evidence, it created an uproar
I agree because It provides video evidence of crimes, would help reduce crime, but there should be limits on how much we are watched. I think that boundaries need to be set on how much we are watched. Maybe the film of everybody is only reviewed when a crime occurs, you could go as far to say only the time around the event and following it is the only thing viewed on the film. Cameras would definitely make crowded areas, or rough areas safer. As for the claims of the Echo and other devices like it, I am undecided at this time how I feel about them. They have to always be listening because they are listening for its wake word. I am very interested to see how the laws change and adapt to new technologies like these
The familiarity of such cases is evidence to believe that one case or even many cases of the same caliber did not prompt the decision to fund police body cameras alone but a more influential reason can explain the decision for body cameras. A state of field assessment conducted by the police reform revealed that various forms of technology is being adapted or developed for law enforcement purposes, and there are many specific technologies, both current and emerging, that can benefit law enforcement. The theory that can best explain new emerging technologies that has power to influence political decisions can best be explained by the new media
I believe if the Kansas City Preventive Patrol Experiment was conducted today different results would be revealed due to the fact that police strategies and tactics have changed over the years in response to changes in society, public pressures, aren research. Police executives must continually reassess their organizational technology and make adjustments to improve the attainment of the goals of protecting life and property and maintaining order. Today, the knowledge base related to what works in policing is much farther along in it development than even a decade ago, making it possible for police executives to strive toward the objective of evidence-based policing (Cordner, 2016). Moreover, evidence-based policing does not replace
The topic that I chose to complete for my senior project is skeet shooting. I chose skeet shooting because I have always enjoyed shooting guns when I had the opportunity to. I would also like to do this for my senior project because I feel that skeet shooting would be something that I would enjoy, push myself to succeed in, and also stay interested in throughout the whole process. Learning about skeet shooting will teach me gun safety and control. This topic will teach me how to properly and safely handle a gun.
From the night watch in Boston, to the present day policing, law enforcement has behind in the world of technology. As time rolled through the political era, professional era, and community-oriented era, police patrols would use the rapidly advancing technology in their favor. "Those were desperate times for policemen in a hostile country with unpaved streets and uneven sidewalks, sometimes miles from the police station, with little prospects of assistance in case of need.... It took nerve to be a policeman in those days," this was reported by Chief Francis O 'Neill of the Chicago Police Department in 1903. With only having a printing press and a multiple-shot revolver over a hundred years ago, the advancement in technology today has helped improve the policing methods in patrol quite significantly. However, technology would eventually out-run the police.
Michael Davies loves his job as a detective and loves the people around him, but the citizens of his community are scared of his fellow officers and Mike does not know why or how to fix it. Officer Davies goes to a police conference in Chicago to find out how to help his community, and after hearing about a useful device, he introduces the body camera idea to his Mayor. The mayor loved his idea because it protects the men and women on the force and the people of his fine city. The citizens of America everyday are scared of those who are supposed to protect them, and the cops are scared of doing their job. Law enforcers that have used excessive force to do their job can be stopped by one small device; a
Body Cams In America, police brutality has been a subject that has been a hot topic of discussion for some time now. Many people have strong opinions on what they believe is best for the citizens and for law enforcement. A big question for many is, “how can we find a solution to this ongoing problem?”
Cops wearing cameras might seem like the perfect idea, for all the logical reasons: The cameras have the potential to increase accountability, reduce complaints, and increase positive police and citizen interactions. However a lot of the assumptions about body-worn cameras are not true and there are some negative unattended side effects of body-worn cameras. Academics of Criminal Justice, at various universities and government organizations have recently studied body cameras, and have identified the misconceptions and potential consequences of having police use body-cams. If police departments in the United States are going to adopt the technology, then both law enforcement, government, citizens
Historically, technological innovation has served as the substance for intense changes in the organization of police work and has presented both opportunities and challenges to police and other criminal justice practitioners, according to Janet Chan, a social scientist who has studied how information technology affects the way police do their jobs.1 Noting that .information is the stock-in- trade of policing,. Chan has identified three general imperatives driving law enforcement’s evening investment in information technology. Using information technology in policing has add that more efficiency to the police department. Comparing the old-fashioned way of patrolling the streets to combat crime to then use them of using technology to predict the crime area and patrolling in advance deters crimes from happening. There are many advantages associated with using information technology in policing. Comparative analysis shows that using information technology (IT) to combat crime has save lot of resources and time in the police department. There are a number of other advantages that can be associated with the use of information technology in the police department.
