Professor Menton English 1 22 October 2015 Should Abortion Remain Legal in the United States? Approximately 57 million unborn children have been affected by the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion since the Roe vs. Wade court case according to a study conducted by the Director of Education and Research at the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund, Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon. If abortion remains legalized in the United States, it will only continue to contribute to the dangers of abortion that women are faced with as well as resume to kill unborn children. Furthermore, adoption is a much better option for anyone in an unwanted pregnancy. The Mental and Physical Health Consequences of Abortion Nearly 81% of women who receive abortions experience subsequent mental health problems according to a recently published study by The Royal College of Psychiatrists. The study demonstrates that the aftermath of an abortion can result in higher rates of anxiety, depression, various forms of substance abuse, and suicidal behavior. As a result of the study, it shows that women who have an abortion face almost double the risk of mental health problems as women who have their baby. This outcome is due to the fact that most women who are terminating pregnancies “may feel a greater sense of loss, anxiety and distress due to lack of support”, as summarized in the Guttmacher Institute, a non-profit reproductive health organization. In fact, a five-year study shows that 25% of
In the time it took you to read this, one child has died from being aborted.
Abortion has affected us all in one way or another since Roe vs. Wade, and
Abortion, to some it is the murder of an innocent fetus with a heartbeat. To others it is considered an option to be freed from the responsibilities of parenthood. We all have different views that can be controversial to the opinions of others. Yet, there are proven facts and cases where making abortion illegal is the best decision. Propaganda for Prolife is everywhere, but is there enough to show the world how wrong abortion is? I believe there is not, yet there are some very emotional advertisements that can change your whole perspective. Abortion should be considered illegal because it is considered murder and can have severe consequences for woman, and there are other options to chose instead of abortion.
Do you think abortion should be allowed in the USA? Abortion Is the killing of a human being. Killing an unborn child is like killing a human being. It’s basically like taking a life of a person. Abortion shouldn’t be allowed in the USA because a woman is taking a person's right to life. ABortion should not be allowed because it is murder.
In the past few decades, the issue of abortion rights has created debates and controversy within the United States. Those who criticize the act of abortion – pro-life – argue that the act of abortion is equivalent to the murder of a baby. Those who support the legalization of abortion – pro-choice – argues women should be able to choose whether or not they want to have an abortion. Currently, abortion is legal in all states – a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe vs. Wade. However, it has become increasingly common for states to create anti-abortion laws, which makes it more difficult to have an abortion. In 2014, Missouri state representative Rick Brattin proposed H.B.131, a house bill that would require women to receive a written consent from the biological father in order to have an abortion. This bill serves to prevent women from having an abortion.
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court’s decision of Roe v. Wade to legalize abortions in the United States began the controversial debate about abortion that has continued to dominate current ethical and political debates. Over fifty-two million abortions have been performed legally in the United States from 1973 to 2010 (Ertelt). Even with scientific advancements showing fetus development, abortions are still performed on 21% of all pregnancies in America according to a national statistic in 2011. Currently there are about 1 million abortions in the United States each year (“Abortions in America”). With the exception of saving a mother’s life, abortion should be completely illegal in
It is known that one out of every three teen girls get pregnant at least once before
In 1972, there were 39 maternal deaths from illegal abortions (CDC). By 1976, after Roe v. Wade legalized abortions nationwide, the number dropped to only two (CDC). This shows that when abortion was legalized that the number of maternal deaths dropped by a significant amount. Second, women who receive abortions are less likely to have mental health problems than women whose abortions have been denied. In Sep. 2013 a study comparing the mental health of women who received abortions to women denied abortions found that women who were denied abortions felt more angry and felt more regret than the women who had abortions which reported "less relief and happiness". The same study also found that 95% of women who received abortions "felt it was the right decision" a week after the procedure. Thirdly, a baby should not come into this world unwanted. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment stated that accidental pregnancies are connected with birth defects, maternal depression, greater risk of child abuse, a high risk of physical violence during pregnancy, and lower rates of breastfeeding (CDC). 49% of all pregnancies among American women are
Imagine a woman was raped and later became pregnant. Shouldn 't she have the right to abort the child or should she be forced to deliver? Put yourself in her shoes. Can you imagine the pain she might feel every time she looks at the child? Should she be forced to endure this? Women should be allowed to have abortions under circumstances such as these.
When one hears the word ‘abortion’ a lot of emotions and mixed feelings come to mind. Abortion has been and always will be a topic of heated debate. Whether one is ‘pro-choice’ or ‘pro-life’ can depend on many different factors. One’s upbringing and religious views play a major role when it comes to supporting abortion or not. There are many reasons that a woman could be getting an abortion therefore people should not be quick to judge. If a woman feels like her life or the child’s life will not be suitable for survival, then she should be respected for her decision. A woman is responsible for her own body and the actions that occur to her own body. Therefore, abortion should be solely a woman’s choice.
Abortion is a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. There are series of legal, moral and ethical issues which may arise about abortion. Most arguments about abortion are often focused on political insinuations and the legal aspect of such actions. Some frequently asked questions’ regarding the issue is if the practice should be outlawed and regarded as murder or should women have the right to practice it. For example, prior to becoming pregnant, some women feel that they would be able to choose the abortion option without trouble. However, even with reasons why having an abortion would be the best option, some women feel that this decision would not be right for them. On the other hand, some women have a strong belief that abortion is unethical prior to becoming pregnant.
Today many people are against women having an abortion, no matter what situation they are in, the point of women having their own rights should include whether they choose to have their own kid or not. The United States today is very divided on the whole abortion issue, typically republicans are against it calling theirselves “pro-lfe” and democrats are typically for abortion and they call theirselves “pro-choice.” Abortion had been practiced in the United States ever since 1880, but it wasn 't legalized nationwide until 1973. Up until that point there were some states that had it legalized, but in the famous court case Roe vs Wade, it was finally legalized throughout all of the United States. But it is still a big issue in the United
Although some believe abortion is morally and ethically wrong should it be legal for victims of rape or incest who have no other alternative? Pro-Life advocates believe as horrible as abortion is, the baby is still innocent of any crime. Nobody should be killed for the crime of another person. While Pro-Choice advocates believe if a woman is pregnant by rape, compassion demands that she be allowed to abort. On the other hand, the pro-life vs pro-choice debate tends to overlook the fact that the vast majority of women who have abortions do not, in fact, do so entirely by choice. Circumstances put them in a position where abortion is the least self-destructive option available to them (Head).
Abortion is a term use for terminating a human pregnancy, which most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. According to the survey that Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada have conducted in 2013, there is a total of 82, 869 Canadians has had an abortion. Abortion should be legalized due to specific circumstances like incidents, disabilities, and teenage pregnancy.
How many times has the topic of abortion come up in one of your conversation? One minute you could be talking about a party and the next everyone is giving their opinions on abortion. For those who are not aware, abortion is the “removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” Abortions are one of the many topics people always debate about. Laws against abortion first appeared in the 1820’s, “…forbidding mothers to get an abortion after their fourth month of pregnancy (Lewis, par. 1)”. Most abortions in the US had been outlawed by 1900. By 1965, all fifty states had banned abortions, with some exceptions that varied by state. In 1973, the Supreme Court declared existing state abortion laws unconstitutional. While
