After reading this chapter of the book, I think that Bill Gates should be richer than me due to his smartness and knowledge in the field of technology. Bill Gates did not just become rich for no reason. He co-founded Microsoft, which is the world's largest personal computer company, with another important entrepreneurs, Paul Allen. On the other hand, their is a huge gap between the rich and the poor. Millions of people around the world live on five dollars a day, while entrepreneurs, such as Bill Gates, live on thousands of dollars a day. This chapter has taught me to realize that it is not all about the Benjamins and to use the money we have to change the separation between the rich and the poor. For example, GDP is a terrific symbol at bettering countries quality of life due to the fact that it measures the amount of time and effort the country works on developing their country. In addition, GDP is one of the best goals to achieve as a county. And with it, some citizens of a country would feel the pride and joy of their country's success. Knowing that their country is ranked high in the measurement, the civilians of that country could feel safe because of their strong economy. GDP is a poor measure of a country’s economic well-being and progress in many different ways. First, the United States has produced a great deal of goods, but the nation's health is huge problem. The total amount of goods that our country produces does not reflect our country's health. It is stated that many European countries have finished towards the top of the ratings of the GDP and the United States has not finished in the top ten in the last decade. Economic health plays a ginormous role in the rankings and European countries, such as Denmark, are wealthy and highly …show more content…
The United States Congress designed the Federal Reserve Bank to supply the country with a stable financial system. In addition, the Federal Reserve is held responsible for managing the country's monetary policy. Also, it is obligated to play a serious part in controlling the function of the country's payment system. The significance of the Federal Reserve (Feds) is to control the money supply as well as other finances for the United States. Since the Feds control the money supply, it gives the United States authority over the American credit. Also, the Feds can navigate how slow or how fast the economy will increase, just by moving upward or downward the central interest rate. Lastly, the Feds are supposed to be the main resource at the time of a financial crisis. Deflation is the decrease in prices of goods and can cause unbalance in the economy. Deflation is worse than inflation because deflation can cause companies to have too much goods in their stock and leads to laying off workers. In addition, credit crunch (which is when consumers cannot get big loans) starts and leads to more deflation across the nation. In the end, deflation leads to depression, such as the Great Depression, or
The tour of Federal Reserve Houston branch was so interesting. After that tour, I was impressive by the Fed’s function. As the textbook mentioned, The Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the United States and is responsible for setting monetary policy and regulating the banking system. Federal Reserve can be very confusing to understand and know what is their purpose and how they help the economy. The Federal Reserve was started in December 23,1913 by President Woodrow Wilson who sign the Federal Reserve Act. The Fed has many things that it controls in are economy. One of the Reason that President Woodrow Wilson put the Federal Reserve Act in to play was because in 1913 because there was proof that banks were unstable so many investors did not feel confident in the banks and felt that it was unsafe. One thing that made Woodrow Wilson make the Federal reserve is the people making a run on the banks frequently, which many bank at this time did not keep enough money in the bank and people panic heard about
The Fed, established in 1913, has several main functions that include: establishing monetary policy, regulating smaller banking institutions, and finding ways to create financial stability. There are several reasons that these responsibilities need to remain out of the hands of politicians. The economic rule that economics and politics do not mix well because of their differing focuses, the differing goals of the two bodies, and the inconsistency of politicians in Congress
The Federal Reserve System was signed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913 and began operating in 1914; to this day it is still the central banking system for the United States. The responsibilities of The Federal Reserve are un-ending and complex. Due to the frequent re- occurring financial issues occurring between the years 1906-1907, like many things The Fed has had to change in numerous ways to adjust to the growing need of our expanding and evolving economy. The income for The Federal Reserve comes from interest on the U.S government securities that are acquired through open market operations (Federal Reserve education). Three major responsibilities of The Federal Reserve are stabilizing prices, interest rate adjustments, conducting investigations

One of the Reason that President Woodrow Wilson put the Federal Reserve Act in to place because in 1913 there were a feel that banks were instable so many investors did not feel confident in the banks and felt that it was unsafe. One thing that made Woodrow Wilson make the Federal reserve is the people making a run on the banks frequently, which many bank at this time did not keep enough money in the bank and people panic heard about other banks falling so they would try and get all their money out of the banks as fast as possible. With so many people running on the bank would cause the bank to fell which became a big problem following the Great Depression. Then Woodrow Wilson need to find a way to make the bank safer and build a more secure financial system. One thing to understand is also the monetary policy which refers to Fed nation central bank, which influence the amount of money and credit in the U.S. economy and how we spend money and credit affects interest rates which help the U.S economy perform. However, the monetary policy main reason it to promote maximum employment, stable prices, and long term interest rates which help the feds control the economic growth.
That is to say, the Federal Reserve's job is to maintain an accurate banking structure and a healthy economy. To fulfill its mission, the Federal Reserve presents itself as the financial institutions bank, the ministry's treasury, the director of monetary organizations and the nation's currency
United States Federal Reserve system, also known as Federal Reserve or simply “Fed” is the United States central banking system. The Federal Reserve took inception in 1913, after the adoption of the Federal Reserve Act. The United States Congress has mandated three macroeconomic objectives to the Federal Reserve. It now formulates the country’s monetary policies, conducts supervision and regulation of the banking institutions, maintenance of the financial
The Federal Reserve was created primarily to be the lender of last resort to provide cash during a financial panic; however, their responsibilities have evolved and increased over time. In November 1977, Congress expanded the Feds responsibilities with the Federal Reserve Act to include the creation of monetary policies to promote price stability and the maximization of employment to keep the economy moving

This role is achieved through the implantation of the monetary policies. According to Arnold (2008), Fed has several tools at it disposal that it uses in the monetary polices. These are; the open market operations which involve buying and selling U.S government securities in the financial markets. Further the bank is charged with the responsibility of determining the required reserve ratio. This ratio is given to the commercial banks dictating the minimum amounts that they should hold in to their accounts as deposits and for lending. Finally the Fed sets the discount rates putting in to consideration the overall market rates s well as desired effect on borrowing that the Fed seeks to achieve. In addition to these three major roles, as a bank, the Federal Reserve Bank can play the roles played by the commercial banks as the rules are not entirely prohibitive as far as this duty is concerned.
Robert F Keneddy speech on GDP highlighted the unique aspects associated with the understanding of GDP. The speech talked about the meaning and importance of GDP and the misinterpretations that are often attached with the concept. He was of the view that accumulation of material things has remained a main focus of economic agents and doing so community values and community excellence are often compromised. In his speech he presented an important concept that GDP cannot be used as a measure of welfare of wellbeing of the economy because it does not take into account the health of individuals, their standard of living, quality of education provided to the individuals etc. In this way it is not a good option to rely on GDP while having an idea about the development of an economy.
The Federal Reserve System was founded by Congress in 1913 to be the central bank of the United States. The Federal Reserve System was founded to be a safer, more flexible, and more stable monetary financial system. Over the years, the role of the Federal Reserve Board and its influence on banking and the economy has increased. Today, the Federal Reserve System's duties fall into four general categories.
