After reading this chapter of the book, I think that Bill Gates should be richer than me due to his smartness and knowledge in the field of technology. Bill Gates did not just become rich for no reason. He co-founded Microsoft, which is the world's largest personal computer company, with another important entrepreneurs, Paul Allen. On the other hand, their is a huge gap between the rich and the poor. Millions of people around the world live on five dollars a day, while entrepreneurs, such as Bill Gates, live on thousands of dollars a day. This chapter has taught me to realize that it is not all about the Benjamins and to use the money we have to change the separation between the rich and the poor. For example, GDP is a terrific symbol at bettering countries quality of life due to the fact that it measures the amount of time and effort the country works on developing their country. In addition, GDP is one of the best goals to achieve as a county. And with it, some citizens of a country would feel the pride and joy of their country's success. Knowing that their country is ranked high in the measurement, the civilians of that country could feel safe because of their strong economy. GDP is a poor measure of a country’s economic well-being and progress in many different ways. First, the United States has produced a great deal of goods, but the nation's health is huge problem. The total amount of goods that our country produces does not reflect our country's health. It is stated that many European countries have finished towards the top of the ratings of the GDP and the United States has not finished in the top ten in the last decade. The United States Congress designed the Federal Reserve Bank to supply the country with a stable financial system. In addition, the Federal Reserve is held responsible for managing the country's monetary policy. Also, it is obligated to play a serious part in controlling the function of the country's payment system. The significance of the Federal Reserve (Feds) is to control the money supply as well as other finances for the United States. Since the Feds control the money supply, it gives the United States authority over the American credit. Also, the Feds can navigate how slow or how fast the economy will increase, just by moving upward or downward the central interest rate. Lastly, the Feds are supposed to be the main resource at the time of a financial crisis. Deflation is the decrease in prices of goods and can cause unbalance in the economy. Deflation is worse than inflation because deflation can cause companies to have too much goods in their stock and leads to laying off workers. In addition, credit crunch (which is when consumers cannot get big loans) starts and leads to more deflation across the nation.
