Some believe that the minimum grade requirement for high school athletes should stay 60 percent, but I do not agree. 60 percent is not high enough and it should be raised to a minimum of 70 percent. 70 percent is an easily achievable goal. This would not only increase the chances of these student athletes receiving financial aid for college, but it would also better prepare them for life.
By making student athletes be required to maintain a minimum of a 70 percent in all of their classes, they would be more likely to succeed in college. Many colleges require a 70 percent or higher just in order to pass their classes. Also, on average only approximately 5 percent of high school athletes play college athletics in the NCAA. With so few people making it to play college athletics, academic excellence should be stressed.
Parents shouldn’t have to suffer the financial problems just because their kid didn’t take high school seriously. 70 percent is just considered average. When colleges look through applications, they try to find the person who has the best grades. Also, parents don’t want to see their kids fail. Parents pride themselves being good teachers, and like to be able to share their child's accomplishments

70 percent is not a lot and students should be able to get well above this mark. If a student does his or her homework every night this should be easily accomplished. Many people know that athletics aren’t as important as academics. No one will be able to play sports for their entire life, however, knowledge can be used as a helpful aid in many tasks for the rest of anyone's life. Many do not realize this because athletics are thought of as cool and fun, but if someone doesn’t take academics seriously, then it can be expected that they will end up on the streets. Due to the fact that most well paying jobs require a college education, it is very hard to make it without an
Members of the board have discussed about raising the minimum to 2.0. However, students-athletes are falsely convinced that sports are more important than school. Most athletes that in play sports don’t always get athletic scholarships. To be exact one in 24,000 college participants will make it into the
If it had been up to me, reconstruction would have gone a little differently. My ideas for reconstruction probably would have been seen as extreme at the time. In my opinion we should have forgiven the south and possibly have had some form of oath or apology in place, but afterwards joined together as a country and given african american people the exact same rights as white people. And we should have put punishments in place for those who chose not to comply. In the beginning i think this might have sparked a lot of anger or controversy but eventually people would have gotten used to treating african americans like they would anybody else. In my opinion, we probably would not face as many problems with racism as we do now if we had taken
Academic success is important for both high school and college athletes. To be eligible to participate, athletes must maintain a certain GPA. Student athletes that don’t make school a priority, not only miss out on playing time, but also fail to prepare themselves for the next step in their life. For high school athletes, that means prepare for college while for college athlete, it means preparing to enter the workforce. Although, both high school and
Students should not be able to play sports with a low GPA. Students should have good grades to play sports, because it is not fair to other students who play sports and keep their grades up. You can not get into college just for sports. You need to have a high GPA too. Other people need sports to help them get good grades. Student athletes should have to maintain a certain grade point average to participate in sports because it helps them develop life skills, gives them a future, and helps them with their confidence.
Although most college sports require an intense commitment, college athletes should never receive the title of “employee.” However, many people disagree with this statement, causing a debate about whether or not college athletes should be classified as employees. The issue climaxed when football players from Northwestern College wanted to form a labor union. They believed that college athletes should be treated better in various ways, whether they are considered employees or not (Patterson). While changes are warranted in regards to the organization of college athletics, they are not currently deemed employees.
Researchers are now finding out that athletes who play in college are accepted with extremely low academic standards compared to the other applicants. When students apply for college, most are accepted because of their grades, but athletes do not have to follow these same standards. For example, the average student has a SAT score of 1500, but athletes are admitted with a score that is 220 points lower. (Go) College is designed for academic learning; it is where students gain independence, where they get a degree, and find a job they love and from which they can profit. All student athletes should face the same academic accountability standards as other non-athletes at the university.
College athletes shouldn’t be exempt from regular class schedules because they should focus on their sport rather than schoolwork. Athletes flaws show in the classroom but not the field or court. David Moltz stated in his article, “The average division 1 baseball player missed 2.3 classes per week last year and the average football bowl subdivision formerly division 1-A football player missed 1.7 classes per week last year.” Division 1 athletes missed more classes during the season than their peers. Even though college athletes are paid to go to school, they should be exempt from regular class attendance because they spend more time on their sports than they do in the classroom and get lower grades than normal students.
, in this society today the world contains a huge amount of students athletes that may have a successful future ahead of them. Being a student athlete comes with a lot of responsibilities due to the fact that you are coming very close to being an adult. In my opinion, I strongly believe that playing sports in high school is a privilege and should be maintained with good grades. If students are not able to keep up with their academics and sports at the same time, how are they supposed to be disciplined enough to handle the responsibilities the real world as a grown up? Kids now these days rely on their sport skills to get into college rather them be academically balanced. How far will sports really get you? Continuing this policy may make the students realize that life is all about balance.
For some school’s a kid has to have a GPA, and some schools kids don’t have to have one. But for the schools that kids need one schools should have the couches decide if their players should have a GPA to play in there sports. As a punishment if kids get into fights or get suspended they should have a certain GPA to play the team.
Before people start to live out their dream there are requirements for them to wake up and live it. One of the requirements that dream coming true is getting the right grades. A person who wants to become a division 1 athlete must maintain a grade point average
Thirdly, many students are simply not as academically gifted as others. If a student is very talented in a particular sport, why should their talent be limited because they could not attain a ‘B’ average? Very many athletes go on to play on the college and professional level and achieve well below B averages and go on to make much more than any individual will make in their lifetime. A philosophy a school should follow is that if a student is good at something, it should not be the school’s job to stop or limit
Athletics are one of the largest sources of revenue for a college, but tends to come at the cost of student's education. Athletes are preparing to compete at the collegiate level well before time has come to even consider a college. Some high schools have instituted grade point average, GPA, requirements for student participation in athletics. Installing the requirement motivates students to work harder in school. This is positive because it allows for an increase in the athletes' knowledge an opportunity to be successful in both academics and athletics in college.
People have control over what they do in life, but not everyone thinks before they do. Some of the actions that people do commit may result in positive or negative outcomes. In Shakespeare Macbeth, Macbeth the main character suffers many consequences because of the bad decisions that he has made in order to get himself in power and to keep his power from those who may want to take it away from him, this may lead to consequences that the character faces in the future. Macbeth is expected to be a loyal and courageous soldier that the audience may not think to be a murdures, unloyal and disobedient person. Throughout Macbeth, Macbeth is successful of becoming king because of the influence of Lady Macbeth of telling Macbeth to kill him. Although Macbeth does obtain all this power Shakespeare does not allow him to live the good life for long, instead he makes him suffer through the witches that tell him the prophecies about how powerful he will become. That makes him very confident and that is where all his actions are that lead to consequences that he suffers throughout the book. At the end of the play Macbeth is not rewarded for the actions that he has committed to become king but shows how Macbeth’s actions lead to his death at the end.
Seeing all the benefits it brings it is highly encouraged to continue and enforce this in more schools throughout the districts to help our athletes get into the habit of how the life as an athlete will be like if they choose to pursue it on to a higher level. With the minor disadvantages that it has like it being costly and it maybe encouraging some athletes to drop out of their sports due to the testing, the benefits oversee all the minor issues it may have. With this we can continue to encourage students and lead them towards a better path along with helping them experience bits and pieces of the real world while working on sending them on their path to greatness. Ultimately we will see an improvement in the athletics department and maybe even save some lives by making their passion for sports win the fight between athletics and
I sprinted onto the field to the noise of the most raucous crowd I had ever seen or heard at Dickinson Stadium, home of the Newton North Tigers. The occasion was not a playoff game, a clash of two of the state’s best teams, or even a rivalry game. It was the school’s one “Friday Night Lights” or “FNL” game for the season. Even on a cold October night against a weak Framingham squad, the allure of FNL drew more fans than any other game. Football games always gave me an adrenaline rush, but that night was another level, it was as though there was a bubble around the Newton North campus, all the problems of the outside world were forgotten. There was only this game, this atmosphere, this moment. When I went into the game for the first time, I was both the most nervous and most excited I had been all season.
