Concealed Weapons Concealed carry is allowed in the public why shouldn’t it be allowed in schools? If adults had weapons they could protect students. I believe in school’s adults should have the right to carry a concealed weapon. Faculty that carry concealed weapons could protect students during school shootings. Schools far away from police and fire need to have concealed weapons to protect students. A vice principal went to his car and got a weapon and was able to stop a school shooting before authorities arrived. Which shows that if concealed carry was allowed he could of possibly stopped the shooter before they started. There would be less school shootings. Only 2 mass shootings since 1950 occurred in schools where concealed carry
Every day parents send their children off to school with the expectation that they will be returned home safely at the end of the day. However, with an ever increasing number of school shootings some parents are pulling their children out of school because they feel as if school can no longer offer the same sense of security as they once had. Some schools are pressing for the right for school instructors to carry a loaded weapon on campus. School instructors should be allowed to carry a loaded weapon on campus because it helps prevent school shootings, it protects them during school shootings, and gives students and staff an added sense of security.
Guns and schools just don’t mix. Of course, this could be arguable from both sides. Only nine out of our fifty states allow guns on campus. Most private universities have the choice to decide if they want to allow concealed weapons on campuses. As for public institutions with the law in its state, they have no choice. Public institutions only have control of what buildings are limited. There are numerous reasons that it could be beneficial, but it can also be a complete catastrophe just waiting to happen. In today’s society, people feel the need to be more protected because of what’s going on in the world. There have been many reported incidents in regards to guns being abused on school grounds. Guns end lives, so it’s imperative that we understand the rules and why they’re so important. In order for people to really understand the pros and cons of having guns on campus, they first must began to understand its safety hazards, retaliation and prevention mechanism.
What happens after they find the gun could be deadly if it was loaded and prepared for a shooting. They’re just children. What would happen if a parent or stranger broke into the school knowing they already had guns? Another point for not having teachers carry guns in school is the distraction it causes. Some students could not feel safe in the presence of a firearm.
Shooters would be deterred to enter the school, knowing that there are teachers that can make their life short. For instance, someone planning on entering a school to kill innocent souls would consider twice before trying, if they knew that they could not succeed. Nevertheless, arming teachers can discourage people from even thinking about shooting up a school.
Over the past several years the topic of gun control has been very relevant. With the increase in crime and the school shootings, everybody felt the need to have a concealed weapons permit. They wanted to be able to protect themselves and their children. No where is safe in this day in age everybody is fighting and angry. The one place you wouldn't think to worry about, the one place you trust your children to go to being "school" is now a dangerous place. Why would someone want to target a school with innocent children you may ask? Because these people are sick. This reason being why the teachers need to be allowed to have their concealed weapons permits and be able to carry a weapon on school grounds so that they can protect our children
When it comes down to it, what does everybody pointing guns at each other solve? Do we really want more people to get hurt than needed to? The job of teachers is to teach, not to guard the school. Schools should hire trained armed officers to do that job. Teachers should not be required to carry concealed weapons because of the dangers that it can cause to the school’s safety, the inexperience some have with weapons and the negative message doing so might send to children.
In the past years, there have been many cases of school shootings injuring and killing many students. With these cases came the argument of having concealed weapons in schools in order for the teachers or students in college to protect and defend themselves and others when the time came. While some argue that it is the best way to keep everyone safe and how it is our right to bear arms, others will agree that it may just cause more shootings and more deaths. Concealed weapons should not be allowed in colleges, because it will make them available for students who should not have a weapon, having weapons does not mean people are willing and able to use it, and lastly because accidents can occur when least expected.
A concealed carry permit makes it legal for people who are trained and qualified to carry weapons. Why do we in any case want to put more weapons on the learning institutions when we are trying to avoid violence? The government should ban these permits on the learning institutions because it is adding more risk to students around the nation. The president of the Dallas-based north Texas Chapter of the Brady campaign which is the countrywide organization favoring gun restriction, McCartney, said that if anyone was to be armed in school, let it be a security officer. Schools should also be the sanctuaries where the students can learn and grow in an environment free form any gunfire risk. When people join the learning institutions, they always want to go to a place where they can learn, enjoy their time and meet new people. The students do not always want to live in fear of the guns around them in their entire living in the schools. By legalizing carrying of guns in the learning institutions especially the campuses, it is like
The decision for college and university campuses to allow their students to carry concealed weapons on campus is a risky debate that one should disagree with. A numerous amount of unfortunate events that have a chance of happening would result as a train thought if the decision was made. Various public schools below college level have been publicized throughout the years to have been involved with shootings, threats, or suicide with arms that were sneaked onto campus discretely, or exposed through a rageful manner fired at random innocent individuals. College level, there is already a majority of students that are above the age of eighteen or twenty-one, both ages having the legal privilege to purchase a weapon. This would increase a caution
Should teachers with concealed carry weapons permits be allowed to carry a firearm on school grounds? How would a teacher help to stop or prevent a school shooting? Teachers carrying a weapon would not only increase their safety and their sense of security. It would also increase the safety of students.
“ A 20 - year old man armed with an AK- 47- style rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition entered an elementary school in Decatur, Ga, on Aug. 20 and fired off a few rounds but surrendered before anyone was injured” (Toppo, 2013, para.2). Because of school shooting like Sandy Hook and many others, schools all around are finding ways to become more prepared in case of this kind of tragedy. Many options have been discussed but a common idea to keep students and staff safe in schools is allowing teachers and administrators to be licenced and to conceal a gun on school property. “While many national organizations have rejected the idea, it is now being seriously weighed by some school boards and state lawmakers across the nation” (Shah, 2013, para.5). Teachers and Administrators should be allowed to carry guns on school property because police stations are too far away and It will increase the amount of safety when given proper training.
Teachers should be able to have a concealed gun on campus because they have come into the teaching profession due to their love for kids. Teachers care about students safety and that is why they should have the right to have a concealed gun on campus to protect them if need be. When teachers get their background check they have to have their records gone over, answer tons of questions, and get fingerprinted. After going through all of this, why can’t they carry a concealed weapon on a school campus to protect their students? If there was a real emergency and teachers had guns, they could potentially save lives. Save their student’s lives!. Teachers love and care about their students just like they love their own children. It seems only right that teachers be given the same opportunity to save their students lives in an emergency, as they are with their own children. Again, the reasons above show why I think teachers should be able to carry a gun on their school
Staff carrying a concealed handgun will help stop a shooting spree before the shooter can pull off a second shot, and before the police even arrive. For example, after the Apr. 20, 1999 Columbine High School massacre, the state of Colorado enacted the 2003 Concealed Carry Act to allow law-abiding citizens the right to carry a concealed weapon. The CATO Institute concluded that this law helped to stop a massacre at the New Life mega-church in Dec. 2007 when a volunteer security guard for the church who was carrying a concealed handgun shot an attacker who had opened fire in the church (Pros and Cons). This only took a matter of seconds, whereas if no one was carrying a concealed handgun, the attacker would have shot and potentially killed a few people before anyone could even pull out their phones to call 911, and then the response time it takes the police to arrive is enough to kill a few more people. The same thing would have happened at Columbine if staff were allowed, able, and able to carry a concealed weapon. What was a total of 13 deaths, could have turned into maybe just 1 if a teacher was carrying. However, someone could propose that criminals are more likely to carry a gun if they think that their
There are three main advantages for allowing teachers to carry a concealed weapon. The three advantages are casualties will be reduced if you could take down the shooter quickly before the shooter kills any more people,
Some are afraid that by placing guns in school zones, more deaths and homicides will occur. That by giving administrators guns the chance of a shooting will increase tremendously, but the truth is by not placing guns on school property, we are increasing the chance of having our children and loved ones being shot. By allowing our administrators to carry guns in schools, we decrease the chance of someone walking into that school and possibly injuring or killing our students and teachers. The Superintendent David Hopkins of the Arkansas district stated “ The plan we’ve been given in the past is ‘Well, lock your doors, turn off your lights and hope for the best’ That’s not a plan”(“Guns in School” #2). Locking the doors and hoping for the best is not the best way to protect the students and teachers. Arming a number of administrators and allowing them to protect themselves and students is the best way to be
