Marijuana is a plant that has grown alongside with humans since around 8,000 BCE. It was first found in its hemp cord form in an ancient village in modern day Taiwan (Advance Holistic Health). There have been estimates that say that marijuana has been with humanity even before then which dates back to 10,000 BCE. This estimate also coincides with the dates for the discovery of agriculture (Advance Holistic Health). Coincidence? Probably not. Marijuana happens to be one of the hardiest of plants out there due to its nature of being able to grow in a wide variety of climates, how fast it grows and how fast it can spread hence the street name “Weed” or “Grass” (MaryJanesGirl™). Up until forty-six years ago, the prohibition of marijuana was lenient and then several presidents over the years started to enforce the prohibition, even on legal medical users and their doctors (Advance Holistic Health). The drug scheduling number one of marijuana is a problem because it prevents any further research from being done on marijuana. We should legalize and inform the masses about the potential of marijuana because of the promising health benefits of its chemical composition and the benefits it has in the economic and environmental industries.
