One freedom I believe that should be expanded in the world today is, men having to draft into the war when they turn 18. Yes, I know I am a woman and do not have to sign up for it, but why should men? Men should have freedom in what they would like to do when they are older. There is a slight chance men will get drafted into a war but what if it happens? Men did not choose to serve in the military if they are not already in it. Yes, they will fight for our country, but also risking their own life. Each individual should have the choice to go into the military or not. If an individual had a family and had been picked in the draft, the only option they can do is leave their family behind and head out to grounds. Men should have the equal rights
Men enlisted to fight in war for many reasons. Enthusiasm and patriotism was what drove some to fight, for others unemployment prompted enlistment, while some were forced to fight due to the fear and guilt driven by the public conception that anyone who didn't fight in war was unpatriotic and a coward. Propaganda was used to influence people to think a certain way. A type of war propaganda that was used at the time was recruitment propaganda which influenced thousands of people each year to enlist. Australian men rushed to enlist but many were turned away because they were unable to meet the thorough physical standards such as a height requirement, a chest size requirement and full set of teeth without any fillings. Australians embraced World
Women should be required to sign up for the draft. The main reason why we weren't required to sign up is that we were deemed the caretakers and needed to stay home and take care of the kids. The issue with this is because there are families where there is only one dad or two dads where all/both dads are required to sign up and -worst case scenario- then the kids would be left alone. There are also women who are twice as qualified to be in the army as some men and just because you're a man it doesn't mean you're fit to be in the
In 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Selective Service and Training Act, which requires all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 to register for the military draft. In 1848 the women's rights movement was started that means that women have been protesting for equality for one hundred years before the draft started. So why is it that a woman think they get to pick and choose what they get for equal rights? That like a woman saying i want to be paid fifteen dollars an hour but only do half the job as the man is doing for fifteen dollars an hour, now that's what i call sexest.
The United States should not bring back mandatory military service, also known as “the draft”. I personally am not supportive of the draft due to many issues including health and mental concerns brought about by the war. These concerns include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, and Substance Abuse, just to name a few. I also feel that the education of the soldiers would be limited because after age 18, most people go to college. Age 18 is also the age males must enlist for the draft. If I were forced into the Army due to a draft, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. For instance, if a soldier was severely injured, the injury would affect the way that person would of live the rest of their life. The injury could even potentially cut the person’s life short. The mental health, physical health, education, and life in general should be taken into consideration before the United States sends young men and women out to war. These diseases are very harmful and we should think about others not just ourselves.
As of recently, there has been a great deal of discussion about women being drafted. We are in the 21st century, and feminism is at its highest peak.
Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of humanity’s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for.
Only men are required to actually sign up for the draft after turning 18 years old.
Making military service mandatory sound like it would be a good idea. This can give discipline, makes stronger citizens, but the reality is doing this takes away freedom and goes against the very foundations of what America is supposed to be. Mandatory military service should not be required for American citizens.
Fog covered forests, heat blasted deserts, mortar destroyed landscapes. These are just a few of the scenarios encountered on the modern day battlefield. The present day warrior needs to be decisive, emotionally stable, physically immovable and a natural born killer. Do women fit any of these descriptions? Should a woman be permitted to enter into combat situations? Some argue that it is a woman's right to be fighting along side other men. Others agree that by not letting women in ground troops her rights are being taken away. A woman can be anything that she wants but when she tries to prove that she is just as good as a man in combat she could be putting herself in very dangerous situations that could
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. People in America often take freedom for granted because it is now the normal way of living in America. The U.S. military and their soldiers help keep our freedom on an international level. The soldiers that help keep our freedom often come back home with a myriad amount of problems that they must overcome. In order to help our soldiers Americans should vote for the right people for office to help the United States Department of Veteran Affairs to prevent soldiers of having financial, family, and personal problems that come from untreated physical and mental health problems to show their support for the U.S. Military.
could not do the required amount, so the Marine Corps had to make a change. Conzachi states: The United States Marine Corps quietly announced recently on social media that the current requirement for female Marines to do a minimum of three (3) pull-ups as part of their training by January 1, 2014 has been delayed for another year. Currently, females are not required to do even a single pull-up, but rather a test called a “flexed-arm hang” in which they can score points based on the amount of time that they can hang from a pull-up bar absent any gear. A maximum score can be obtained if they hang for 70 seconds with their chin over the bar.
The GI Bill also provides assistance with career advancement. Entrepreneurship training helps veterans start their own businesses, flight training allows veterans to become airline pilots, and funding for license and certification testing helps servicemen and women become certified mechanics, therapists, web developers, and attorneys (“Education Benefits”, 2017).
I should be permitted to go into the military. I should be permitted because I am proud of my country. I should be permitted because being in the military is not as deadly as my other options. I should be permitted because I can make a diffence. My opponents claim that I should not make the choice to go in to the military. It is my chose to do whatever I want to do like go into the military or be a cop. Many people feel that I would waste my life for no reason. This view is not the trueth for me and other like me because we are fighting and helping for the people that live in that area. All though it may be that there are devises out there that are devastating. What this idea fails to recognize is that there are devises like that but the US
When Hillary Rodham Clinton was a young child, she wrote to NASA inquiring about becoming an astronaut. NASA wrote back to her saying that girls could not be astronauts. But, she did not let this discourage her from pursuing other goals. While she may not have become an astronaut, she is still accomplishing things that people once said women couldn’t do. She is even one of the 2016 presidential candidates, and we happen to have similar opinions on many major issues.
Less than one percent of all Americans are enlisted in the military. An even smaller percentage of high school students are enlisted. Students are thought to be incompetent, and not mature enough to decide on enlisting in the military. However, students should be allowed to join the military. The military offers many benefits students can use to help their future. The protection of our country is not overlooked for recruits; they are awarded many personal benefits as well. Tuition assistance, job training, and many benefits that help prepare recruits for occupations while enlisted. Not only are students getting great benefits, but they are also in a small group of professional workers.
