Should Net Neutrality Be Repeal

Throughout the span of 2008-2010, another net neutrality bill was introduced in congress regarding Comcast blocking files but, Comcast sued the FCC saying that the FCC has no authority over their internet service. . The FCC attempted to apply a cease and desist order against Comcast but eventually they canceled it. The outcome of this dispute created an Open Internet Order by Democrat Julius Genachowski (Reardon, 2015). This is very significant because this is what made the net neutrality rules official in the FCC regulation. This order explains that people can access content to the Internet without experiencing blocking or slowing down. In addition, broadband providers have to be clear about their management networks and practices.

First thing I want to point out what is net neutrality. Net neutrality is limiting internet service providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, Century Link, Comcast, MediaCom, etc., from charging their customers where they are using their internet. Right now internet service providers can slow access to certain cites and speed the internet upon other cites, they are basically controlling where people go and what they do on the web. They charge certain companies more for the customer’s use of that cite and then, in turn, those companies charge more to their customers. Basically net neutrality is making the internet a fair place that everyone can use without having to worry about if the internet site they use is going to be slow or if they will be going

Without net neutrality, companies can charge the customer for how much data they use rather than a flat price. Most every other business practice is like this. If someone goes to get fast food and only wants a sandwich but has no other choice but to get the full meal, that is the same concept. This is very appealing to lots of people who may not use as much data as most internet users and feel that they are paying too much. Internet Service Providers are very against net neutrality because it costs them more money.

What is net neutrality? Net neutrality is when an internet service provider can block us from being able to use whatever application, web site, and products we may desire to use unless we basically pay for them, therefore limiting our access to whatever we desire.

Net neutrality, though sounds like a good concept, as a practice it is more challenging. It has become more political than before. There isn’t a recognized legal or technical description of how it’s done. Therefore governments, service providers and individual rights groups all have dissimilar pitches of what ‘net neutrality’ means to them. The popular debate of net neutrality is the battle to preserve the Internet pretty much how it is now, or how much to let the internet service providers to manage their networks and in what way.

Since net neutrality forces Internet Service Providers to treat all content equally, people can have equal opportunity on the internet. Blocking, throttling, and slowing websites is restricted with net neutrality, so everybody gets to have equal competition on the internet. Without net neutrality Internet Service Providers would have the ability to throttle companies that support them, and block competitor companies and their services. This would start monopolies that restrict smaller companies from selling products and services. People also have suspicions that Internet Service Providers will start to make people pay microtransactions to have access to each individual site or group of sites on the internet. What is net neutrality and how does it affect us? Net Neutrality is basically freedom of open internet from internet providers. This means they can’t block certain websites or slow down your connection. Now, the current issue is the FCC is trying to remove this right ever since it was adopted ten years ago. Without Net Neutrality, cable and phone companies could charge more for slower speeds than you’re paying for now.

The internet is an immense part of everyone’s lives, whether it’s used for work, school, or entertainment and it’s at risk. The federal communications commission (FCC) is planning to end net neutrality, which is a big deal. Net neutrality or open internet is the principle of having free, equal access to the internet, without having to pay or have internet service providers blocking and slowing down websites. For many years, people have been fighting to keep the internet free, and big companies and the FCC have been fighting back. Fighting to keep net neutrality has never been more important than now because the vote to end net neutrality is on December. 14. Fighting to keep net neutrality is important because it allows free access to information, free speech and thought, and it helps businesses.

Net Neutrality is a very important issue facing the United States, with many Republican members of Congress opposing the FCC’s Open Internet Order and the reclassifying of broadband to Telecommunication Services from Information Services. The members of the GOP who are completely against the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) reclassification, and attempts to keep the internet free, give many reasons that are simply not true, such as the FCC’s regulations will destroy the free nature of the internet. Because of the attempts by Congressmen with the GOP to fight the regulations, many Americans, especially small business owners that use the web as a base, feel that their equality and freedoms on the internet will be

Net neutrality has been around for quite some time but it was up until now when that us internet users really pay attention to it because our President Donald Trump wants to pass a new net neutrality rule/bill that makes people pay to use apps that were meant to be free like Facebook and Twitter that millions use. “June 2003 Tim Wu coins the phrase network neutrality which was later shortened to net neutrality”. (Tim Wu) According to this quote net neutrality has been around since the summer of 2003 but didn't really take any effect until “February 2004 when the U.S. Federal Communications Commission introduced four principles of network freedom”. (ProQuest Staff) now therefore net neutrality did not affect communities until February of 2004.

Tim Berners-Lee said “Freedom of connection with any application to any party is the fundamental social basis of the internet. And now, is the basis of the society built on the internet.” Net Neutrality is the idea that Internet service providers shouldn’t block or deny access to certain websites or content but should allow access to all content by everyone. The major controversy with net neutrality is that FCC is putting regulations on internet service providers. The FCC is proposing to protect net neutrality by enforcing new rules on internet service providers under Title II of the communications act. The FCC would be given the power to prevent these providers from banning any legal service or website. To outlaw fees for faster service, to ban the impairing or degrading of internet traffic. Those who support net neutrality are major tech companies including Google, Facebook, Netflix, Mozilla, Etsy and Reddit. They argue that without strong regulation, cable companies could “pick the winners” online, providing better service for their own

The emergence of the Internet and the World Wide Web brought upon a medium of communication with a range of opportunities for the world. However, this medium is, in due course, subject to the control of a few major companies. The enigma of information flow is the central concern of net neutrality. Consumers, competition and network owners would benefit directly from the regulation of network neutrality because it would provide a positive impact to those parties as well as provide equality.

Since the early 90s, pictures and mp3 websites arrived, causing internet traffic to increase. Sharing videos and video steaming was more common since 2003. Free video content sites, such as YouTube are using a good amount of bandwidth, which causes ISP’s demand to charge them to make their content available on the provider’s network. This is called Net Neutrality.Net Neutrality can be both positive and negative. For companies net neutrality has had a positive effect, while for others it’s harmful. Consumer advocates, organization and internet applications companies, such as Amazon, Yahoo, and eBay etc. support net neutrality. They support net neutrality because when an advertisement pop up they would get money for every time someone look at
