There are people who think those police officers should wear their body cameras. Police officers need to wear their body camera for protection. People who are for it want the best for police officers. They do not want to see the officers suffering from rumors. For instance, a police officer could be in a situation that he or she has to excessive force on the suspect.

“If officer and citizens are being watched, we are both more liable to do the right thing” (Josh). If a police pulled you over and you noticed a camera on them, would it change your future actions? Many people say it would, and I agree. People tend to change their attitude and whole demeanor if they know they are being videoed or watched. That is why I think police officers should be forced to wear a body camera at all times while at work.

Should it be mandatory for officers to wear body cameras? Yes, I strongly believe it should be mandatory. In 2016-2017 alone, there have been 357 police brutality incidents that could have been recorded if police were required to wear body cameras. Police officers should have to wear body cameras when they are on duty. When police are required to wear body cameras, the number of injuries to citizens will be reduced. If police wore body cameras, it could save the court system time in figuring out the details of the event. In the end, body cameras worn by police officers could increase safety for all. Body cameras could reduce injuries to citizens.

There has been many situations in which police officers have abused their power. In these cases police officers have brutally beaten or killed innocent civilians. Everyone has heard about a story about how police officers have abused their power by utilising their personal beliefs rather than the reason their profession requires. Some officers cannot disunify their professional life from their personal life. Their identity is distinguished by their uniform. Any struggles in their exclusive life are seen as a threat to their dominance, jurisdiction, or power over the other person and the situation. It is either ethical or unethical. There is no accommodation for the victim to voice their opinion or position. Situations like these are known as Ferguson trails, Floyd Dent, Najee Rivera, and etc. These people have either lost their life or been physically abused. Police officers should wear body cameras because with body cameras it protects others, protects officers, and proves the reality of the actual situation.

A big controversy now a day is with police brutality. There are hundreds of people dying each day due to some association with police officers. This position is not necessarily about who’s side to pick, it’s about the use of body cameras on police officers. These cameras would solve a lot of stories of he said she said. Especially with all the hate going around these days. People could be lying about certain incidents and the world may never know because there is no footage between the bystander and the officer face to face.

Every police officer in the United States should wear body cameras in order to improve trust and rebuild relationships between citizens and law enforcement officers. Studies done across the country have shown a significant decrease in not only citizen complaints brought against the law enforcement but also a decline in incidents where police were involved in forceful activity or brutality. Body cameras will protect cops from false accusations while also protecting citizens from police brutality. In order for law enforcement to be effective there must to be complete trust between citizens and policemen. Officers cannot do their jobs well if their actions are continually second-guessed or incorrectly relayed to media by bystanders later. Implementing body cameras across the country will allow for the transparency of law enforcement actions and the safety of citizens they interact with.

The high rising crime of police officers abusing their powers in America is bringing up the controversy of whether police officers should wear body cameras or not. All police officers should wear body cameras to enhance their relations with the community, and everyone will behave better.
