While some kids and parents believe students should be free to dress the way they want as an expression of free speech, most schools have a say in how students dress. The school might have a dress code that gives guidelines for appropriate clothing, or it might require students to wear uniforms. Schools with a uniform policy usually have good reasons for implementing it, and some cite research to back their
In class we have to pick an issue that teens deal with in life. The issue that I picked is dress codes. The reason I picked dress codes is because it is one of the one of biggest issues that teens deal with today. In this paper we are going to talk about dress codes and why they are good for teens and why they should have them.
Conclusively, there are many more important reasons why schools in our country should adapt school dress codes. The schools that participate in the traditional wearing of uniforms, are getting a jump start in the countless number of advantages schools can get to help up their statistics. Learning that there are many minor issues of the judgmental side of the dress code, a few more issues come from the simple fact of students not having to worry about what they are wearing the next day. Additionally, teachers would not have to anguish about getting on the students about their dressing habits. Likewise, not only the teachers, but the parents as well would have a much more relaxing day and would imply the skills that the students need to help
High School should not have dress codes. Dress codes are going to be broken no matter what. Kids like to express their feelings through music, their rooms and you guessed it their clothing. Yes some kids go over the top with their clothing but if your going to punish anybody then punish them. But with that I think high school should have dress codes. With great freedom comes great responsibility. If you want to be the center of attention then go somewhere else and do that. School is for learning not showing off who has the better clothing or who has the new kicks. Learn things that your going to need in the world. Like if you want to be a professor than you are going to need a lot of math, reading , history and etc. No one cares what you
How far should kids be able to go before schools stop them from expressing themselves? If you look around the country at the more than 100,000 schools, you will see kids that are being held back from expressing themselves. You will see kids being restricted from wearing certain types of clothing. When schools start dictating what students can and cannot wear beyond reason, that's where the line needs to be drawn.
You're in English class. The teacher asks a question to the whole class, and you raise your hand. Then your shirt goes up. Instead of getting a smile from your teacher for getting the answer correct, you get a one-way trip to the main office. Well, this is what happens to so many girls at school every day. The dress code Brings girls self-esteem down, and you can miss So Many hours of class time.
To some, arguing over student dress code seems trivial and useless. To others, it goes deeper than that. Dress code might seem like the typical “first world problem”, but to the average high school student, gaining the freedom ‘no dress code’ grants is incredible. The fact of the matter is, the rigid enforcement of student dress code has gone too far in today 's society and dehumanizes us as citizens. Although school dress code attempts to promote modesty and protection, it also reinforces gender inequality, smothers individualism, is unconstitutional, and should not be enforced in public schools.
I feel that dress code is not only unfair, but non reasonable. Kids should have freedom to dress how they’re generation dresses, and feel okay or not get punished for it.
What if I told you that, you don’t have a choice in what you can wear to some schools. Mostly high school and that’s the time when all children should express themselves and grow as individuals. Many schools around the world has a dress code policy that the students must follow. In America dress code policy has been around for more than 100 years. The first school dress code law was established in 1969 by the U.S. Supreme Court. “The constitutionality of these codes was first challenged in a 1969 U.S. Supreme Court case called Tinker v. Des Moines, which involved students who were banned by their school district from wearing black armbands to school to protest the Vietnam War. The court ruled in favor of the students saying they had the right under the First Amendment to wear the armbands; this set the overall standard in place.” (-Kimberly Yates). Many school board believe that dress code rules for students within their district to promote a safe, disciplined school environment, prevent interference with schoolwork and discipline. Some of the dress code policies in school are to strict and stop students from expressing themselves. This is still going on to this day, in schools around the world dress code policies interfere with a students’ right to self-expression. I believe that dress codes should be banned from schools and to let the students wear what they want to wear. Dress codes should be banned because the students are not able to express themselves, the system is a
Wearing uniforms is not something that is uncommon. There are many schools that require strict dress codes or even uniforms. Not only schools, but workplaces will require their workers to wear professional clothing or even a uniform. Our school has discussed requiring a dress code and I have been asked to share my thoughts on the topic. I believe that schools requiring a dress code set up students for successful futures and avoids trouble for students and teachers.
Anytime there is a complaint at the Mayor’s office, it is usually about the dress code. The law is that there needs to be a dress code, but there is a way to fix that. Some children buy a cute outfit, but can never wear it because it is against the dress code. Parent are also having a hard time with this, it is hard for the parents to choose their child’s clothes. There had been a plan that is we get fifty signatures on a petition, then there will be two vans, with five adults in each van, and head off the the SCBOE office.
Many teachers and students think we should not have a dress code, and I agree. Studies show that having a dress code can cause raise of money. Also boys would have to cut their hair to a certain limit. Finally Muslim girls would get suspended for wearing a headscarf. Those are some reasons why we shouldn't have a dress code.
Your alarm goes off on Monday morning and you hit snooze or so you thought. You finally wake up and you see it’s 7:10 and school starts at 7:35. Are you going to grab the first set of clothes that you see or are you going to take time to pick out your clothes? I would just grab the first set of clothes I see. But when you get to school you get called into the office because your outfit because you can see a little bit of your shoulder. Are the school dress code too strict in schools? Should schools have dress codes, but not as strict as they are now.
Uniforms have been around for centuries, from back in the day when women had to wear dresses or skirts and men had to wear pants. To now where students and employees have to wear certain pieces of clothing. People dress to express themselves, schools tell their students to be who they are and to be proud; however, when the student tries to do so they are sent home or held in the office which not only takes away their rights to express themselves, but takes them out of class. According to Friedrichs, “A shocking number of students are actually sent home or suspended for breaking dress code, which means even more time out of class.” A school's job is to prepare children for their futures, that can be quite hard when the student is not there to learn. Dress codes can be overwhelming to maintain. A student's wardrobe isn’t going to be full of polos and khakis because they most likely do not wear polos and khakis outside of school. Dress code should not be as strict, hoodies should be allowed, tank tops should be
Leggings, crop tops, and short shorts, oh my! From prom dresses to everyday dress wear, females are taught to be ashamed of and hide their bodies. Schools have established different ways to do this to them. In or out of school, these girls are classified as many different things: sluts, whores, or skanks. All because they are confident in their body or want to be comfortable.
In many American middle and high schools, there are rules on how you must dress. The most known of these are that boys must wear shirts and must not show their underwear, and girls must have shorts or skirts be fingertip length, not show shoulders or bra straps, and not show too much cleavage. The rules vary by school, but most of these rules are geared towards young women. College and real life do not have dress codes. Employers have dress codes so that their employees can convey to customers what the business wants them too, but dress codes in public high schools are sexist and teach young women that their education is less valuable than that of a man’s.
