Teachers and other administrators should be trained and required to carry firearms to school. There are many school shootings happening around the world. Teachers carrying firearms could protect their students, fellow teachers, and themselves from being harmed. Having teachers and administrators carrying guns will also give students a feeling of safety and security.

My first topic is the school will be safer if a teacher carries a gun. My second reason is that volunteer teachers go through special training, and lastly on the other side of the issue the teacher my hesitate on shooting their own student. One good reason teachers should have guns is that the school will be safer from shooters. If a shooter enters a school or a classroom and there are no police officers at the school and if it is a school in a rural area, the police take longer to respond.

What happens after they find the gun could be deadly if it was loaded and prepared for a shooting. They’re just children. What would happen if a parent or stranger broke into the school knowing they already had guns? Another point for not having teachers carry guns in school is the distraction it causes. Some students could not feel safe in the presence of a firearm.

Finally, not all teachers are capable enough nor prepared enough to be armed. Where some teachers are capable of carrying-- such as ex cops trained professionals-- the question is: how do we decide in the future who would be able to carry? Maybe we should give them a mental evaluation before letting them conceal and carry. There are many problems that are just not clearly though through in this situation. The fundamental problem is that mass shootings are traumatizing, terrifying events.

The day has been totally ordinary until you and your classmates hear a loud gunshot coming from outside the window. Students are screaming and running frantically around the room. Teachers are rushing around doing all the procedures they learned from past drills. Except this is not a drill. This is real. You and your classmates huddle in the corner. Outside the school you hear more gunshots. Would this situation be different if teachers had guns? The answer is no. Teachers and staff at schools shouldn’t be armed with guns.

There have been many solutions to help decrease gun violence and one solution that they have come up with is to have teachers take guns to school. Allowing teachers to carry guns will allow teachers to prevent school shootings on the grounds of preschool through college campuses. Everyone has their own opinion about teachers being able to carry guns including other teachers, parents, and government officials. Depending on what state the teacher is teaching in determines if they can carry their gun now, if they are in the process of being able to, or if their state is not passing a law to allow them to carry their gun while at school. Teachers would not stand out like police officers or security officers would while in the school which would allow for other teachers and all of the students to have normal days if schools did not have officers before. Research shows that allowing some teachers to carry guns in their school promotes school safety, protects the teachers and students, and promotes gun safety while still teaching their students.
