I recently discovered a special quote and the meaning and the words immediately stuck to me. Many people, especially teenagers who are lost in society, often change themselves so that they could be accepted into a particular group. In today’s world, judging another person is a common action that many do every day whether they are proud of it or not. Due to this, many young teenagers often try to change who they are in order to be welcomed. According to Bernard M. Baruch, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.” Over the years, I’ve realized people who take one quick look at you and make an assumption does not matter. People who matter, however, don’t care who you are or
Through the poem “Barbie Doll” by Marge Piercy we see how much words can affect someone, especially the youth. By always being told that you are not good enough, you are going to take that one of two ways. One you may give in and give up, or you will decide to toughen up. No matter how hard you try, you will never be fully accepted until you die. There will always be someone who wants you to change something about yourself, in order for you to be “better.” If we do not take a stand for who we are and for the things we believe in, are we really living a life worth living?
The first part of the quote teaches you that you cannot be comfortable with other people, unless you are comfortable with yourself first. In other words, you have to be able to live with who you are and be confident in that. Although, being confident in yourself is a lot harder than it seems. Going through school as a teenager can be very difficult; that specific time of your life can determine what kind of a person you are or become. When you try to go through public schooling and you are not confident in who you are, it can be miserable. So much learning takes place during that time of your life, and if you can never be sure of yourself when you’re young, you will struggle when you make it to the “real world.” On the contrary, if you can stand strong in who you are, and not waver for the benefits of others, then you will be much happier in the end. Knowing who you are may not make
In our society everyone expects to be the same, however, no one is ever going to be the exact same. Everyone has different beliefs and different interests. Today people judge the nice stuff people can afford and the way people dress. In the story, “The Doll’s House”, there were two girls known as the Kelvey sisters and they were really poor. “They were dressed in “bits” given to her by the people for whom she worked” (Mansfield 203). Nowadays people judge you on appearance and if you are dressed sloppy you are more likely to be made fun of. If you cannot afford the up to date things people have a reason that they don’t want to talk to you. If you are wealthy you are more likely to be judgmental. Not all people are like this but it is known
In the quote above, William Shakespeare, describes that a person needs to place who they are and being confident above everything else. Nothing is worse than regretting a situation in life because someone wasn’t being their true self. No one should ever let success, a relationship, or what people think of them get in the way of being who they are. They may be putting on a mask and acting like a different person to try and impress the popular group in school or someone that they really like. In the long run, they may miss out on a great friend or relationship where they are not judged . The 90’s film, “Clueless”, is a perfect example of this quote. The protagonist, Cher Horowitz, tries changing who she is to find a boyfriend. She wants to
Barbara Jordan said, “ We as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves.” This tells us that everyone should be treated the same, no matter how someone looks different does not mean that they should be treated different because we are all humans. I agree with Barbara, because I would not want to be treated differently than others just because I look different or have different beliefs from them. In this essay i will be talking about how this quote ties in to what i have read in this section.
A person’s identity is influenced by how you view yourself and how society views you. In Jonathan Lykes poem This is a Siren, and the short story The Bear that Wasn’t by Frank Tashlin, both authors shine a light on how great of an impact society can have on an individual’s identity. Society has already established different stereotypes for each individual which causes everyone to perceive others in a certain way without truly getting to know them. This can cause an individual to change the way they perceive themselves in order to be accepted by society and to fit in it’s expectations of that individual. “This thing called perception, that gives people the opportunity for acceptation, or on the flip side, to be a circle of rejection…” (Lykes 2010) Here, Lykes talks about how we perceive each other can either make us accept one another or reject one another. However, in the end, it is up to the individual to decided if they are going
Zig Ziglar once said, “Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember: The only taste of success some people have is when they take a bite out of you.” The criticism of appearance causes many people to hide their legitimate self. The superficial life that many people are able to live is not for everyone. Going against one's community is ethical when their judgment of an individual does not allow them to truly be happy.
We should mot judge the people based on their appearance because the appearance will not tell how the person is the person without the good appearance he will have a good talents and success in his life the appearance is a just the way what we see but based on the appearance we can't judge the people the people who have a good character and behaviour he will be success in his life if a person who don't have a good character but his appearance is good the person will not have a good future
Throughout my life, I have been the target of patronization. I was never apart of the majority, but I made my jagged-self fit into the puzzle. I was never the smartest, but I confidently asserted myself like I
Judging the Unknown Have you ever felt judged upon the way you act, but not on who you are? A suitable quote on this is, “What you don’t know won't hurt you. Always put yourself on the shoes of others the world is round.” ~ Rheji Dela Cruz.
Being different isn't a bad thing at all; it's a great thing. People around the world are judged everyday of their lives for their sexuality. If you are different it's great that you are in my opinion. You shouldn't be judged for being different. It's not wrong for someone to be different what's wrong with it? nothing.
I agree it is wrong to judge an individual based off of their age. Some individuals are young and have cognitive issues. As well, I like how you referenced to the bookend pointed out aerobic exercises are shown to improve the brains functioning. Furthermore I think neural plasticity sliences all the haters that are making a bad name for the older generation. Enjoyed your post girl
In conclusion, I just want to say that we (as people) need to stop judging people because of their race, culture beliefs, and their religion. We need to respect other people’s religions, and need to stop treating them in negative way. Also, avoid if there is any misunderstanding about any religion out there in the
I am writing you to apply for a holiday job posting, published in yesterday's English newspaper, in the city museum. I got criticized by the community of UK government when I supported the well-being of indigent people living on the streets of Brigimgham because the primary purpose was not just to help them but also to vie with the other foes competing for the prize. I believe the worst thing a person does to another person is prejudice. The phenomenon of prejudice has destroyed many people's lives. I have had a problem of pre-judging people, I usually come to a conclusion even before meeting the person and most of the time my perception towards them was negative, but many times my instincts are proven wrong when I actually met and talked to
No matter how big of a crime or mistake a person makes, their children are completely innocent. It is completely wrong to judge a child based on what their parents have done because they did not choose their parents. Of course, if the child makes the same mistake or commits the same crime they are guilty, but people should not assume they are automatically bad people just because of their parents actions. Many people do not realize that the children of bad people can be good, despite the environment they were raised in. Children can not control their parents actions, and they should not be judged or punished for something they did not do.
