Video Games are evolving and are more popular than ever in 2017. Some games have gotten so popular that they have millions of fans gather in stadiums to watch their favorite celebrity gamers play their favorite game for massive amounts of cash. While this idea sounds crazy to some people, it is becoming the new normal in other places such as Korea and China.

Whether it’s playing video games or watching video games, we get filled with an intoxicating feeling to play or watch more. Throughout generations, there has been an increase of people playing video games and about half the population in the United States plays video games. Since 1980, video games are taken to a different level with eSports, which is competitive electronic gaming tournaments with other competitors. In 2000 to the present , eSports grew in popularity and became known worldwide because of the game “League of Legends”. In 2011 “LoL” tournament ranked over 1.6 million views worldwide and during a “LoL” championship in 2015 over 36 million people were viewing the game. ESport raises this question: “Do video games counts as sports?” Video games do not count as a sport because it does not match the criteria of a sport,video games are luck-based, and are unhealthy.

Many colleges that have athletics care more about sports than kids learning. According to multiple studies, if children participate in any kind of activity, then they tend to think about other things instead of education. Therefore, athletics should be eliminated so districts can save money, students can be successful in school, and the kids can start doing their homework.

The controversy surrounding calling E-sports a sport is met with intense arguments from all spectrums: gamers and non-gamers will both argue for or against granting E-sports the title of sport. However, regardless of the positive or the negative arguments, E-sports is both incredibly popular and profitable.

A sport is defined as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Competitive. Competition is a rivalry between two or more persons or groups for an object desired in common, usually resulting in a victor and a loser. Something to argue would be if a competition could legitimately be considered a sport. The word ‘compete’ is in the definition of sport after all. So, should eSports, or Electronic Sports, be considered a sport?

Continuing on, between the fact that out of country professional gamers get the same visa as out of country athletes and the fact that gaming can earn more money than being in the NFL, also that more people watch the video game championships than the MLB games, It's pretty safe to say that video games SHOULD be considered a sport.

Sports are known as one of the healthy activity and have become essential for everyone. Physical educations and movements help the children to be healthy, fit and lower the chances of getting infected or have obesity. There are various of sports the school have offered but, students choose the sports that are more comfortable for them so they would enjoy it. High school have sports that help the teenagers to collaborate often, creates the feeling of satisfaction and improve their health.

Competitive gaming, also known as e-sports, is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. With huge events and tournaments that are watched by millions of passionate fans, many people are beginning to question whether playing video games can be considered a real sport. Even though e-sports may not be as physically demanding as traditional sports like football and basketball, the structure, strong fan base and the requirements to seriously contend in the competitive gaming scene legitimize it as a “real” sport.

Imagine a large arena filled with two competitive teams. The tension grows and finally, one team prevails and is greeted by stupendous amounts of cheering. There are a wide variety of video games that are popular worldwide, and are played by many different people. Video games, and gaming in general, should be considered to be added in the many sport selections because of how similar it is to any other sport: how pro players that get paid, and how a lot of talent is necessary to play.

Video games should not be considered a sport as it does not involve any physical activity or exercise at all. I mean seriously, how could sitting on a couch mashing buttons with your fingers be considered a sport. However according to the English Oxford Dictionary states that the definition and meaning of physical activity is to "of the body (physical exercise is being active, busy or energetic to make the body work sweat or be tired. So tell me, how could playing video games ever be debated or even considered a sport.

When “sports” is heard the first thing thought of, big athletes, open fields, and probably a lot of sweat. However, that is not the case these days. Within the last ten to twenty years a radical thing that probably would not have been thought to exist is coming into fruition, and boy is it blooming. Electronic Sports, eSports for short, is the act of playing video games competitively for not just proving who’s better, but also for a very large chunk of money. Does that make it a sport however? Is just being able to compete against others for money what makes something a sport?
