Should Viruses Be Considered Dead

After researching this controversial question, I have come to the conclusion that viruses should be considered dead. My rationale is due to the simple fact that in order for something to be considered living, it needs to have the essential characteristics of life. These characteristics include growth, homeostasis, and the ability to reproduce as outlined below:
1. Growth: Viruses themselves do not grow. For true growth to occur, an organism must change and become larger in both size and complexity. When a new virus forms, it is already in its fully developed state, therefore no growth has actually occurred. Instead, what happens is viruses "trick" cells to become host cells that form new viruses, serving as the host cells.
