Should we ban violent video games? That is the question. However, let’s say we should ban violent video games. Now comes the next question; can we ban violent video games? The answer to that question is no, not at all. Why? Because they possess defense under the first amendment of “Freedom of religion and speech (10).” The bill of rights states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. (4)” This topic has been tackled before in many courts, even in the supreme court, each time shooting down the banning of video games (12). At the supreme court, the case of banning violent video games was shot down 7 to two (12). So it seems like we can’t ban video games in the first place, but maybe if we have enough reasons to ban video games, there could be an exception to the rule. However, I believe that we shouldn’t ban video games because they may be a factor of aggressive behavior but they 're not a cause, they can only be a simulation of real life, and banning violent video games isn 't what we should be focusing on. Violent video games may be a factor of aggressive behavior, but they’re not a cause of it.
