Defending the world against those that wish to cause harm to people through the use of cyber warfare would define a successful Information Assurance Professional. Actively battling the “evil” of the cyber world is the life of Information Assurance professional, from making sure that sensitive data stays out of the hands of the advisory to actively defending against a denial of service attack, and everything in-between. Let us journey to through what it takes to make it in the world of Information Assurance.
Why would you want to join the world of cyber security? The job market projections according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics stands at a staggering 18% compared to the national average of growth of only 7% for the projected outlook for 2014 to 2024 (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1). This means that there is going to be a very healthy demand for information assurance specialist over the next ten years. The average salary for an information security analyst is $88,890 or about $47.42 per hour according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (1). This is $32,020 higher than the 2014 reported Nebraska median income of $56,870. While that is the average, and the argument can be made for, what about just starting? Yes, you can make less than the average hence why it is an average but having an average so far above the average for the area in which you live is, to me at least, a great field to be in. Good outlook and above average pay, who do you get started in the field?
