Are women paid the same amount of money as men? The answer is no. Men have a higher pay rate than women, even if they are working at the same job. Why then are women paid less than men? In a recent study, women are only earning 80 percent of what men earn. According to the Institute For Women's Policy Research, for every dollar men get working full-time, women only received 0.76 cents while working the same job full-time.
Men and women are pretty closely paid while in college, but during a women’s 20s to 30s their pay rate decreases. This is usually around the time when women are married and have children. Studies show that women are more likely to quit their job due to having children so they can be the ones to raise their child. Although there are some women that have children and still work full-time they aren’t paid the same as men. Even if a woman is not pregnant or have any children, she still typically won't be paid equally. Another reason women are paid less is that they are more likely to stay with their husband or move with them, rather than stay at their job. …show more content…

The amendment is called the Equal Rights Amendment. This amendment says “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” This amendment took a very long time to be accepted by the government. Many people tried in the past to make this amendment, but no one ever agreed in the government to pass it.
