The English idiom "don't judge a book by its cover" is a metaphorical phrase which means "you shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something, by what it looks like on the outside.

Take Shrek for example. Everyone has to have seen or heard of him. He is that big fat, scary green ogre that takes mud showers in his swamp. Smelly!!! He wears a dirty old white shirt, a crocodile skin vest and likes to eat onions and slugs. But is this all Shrek is?

You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover because it's not fair. Do you know what it's like to be judged? Before you judge someone by their appearance, you should get to know that person. Just because others have labeled them unpopular, dorky or nerdy doesn't mean that really says anything about that person. Most people don't take the time to understand others and usually rely on what they hear from rumors, or what their eyes let them see.

It is important to be kind to one another, and always remember that everyone has a story that we do not know about. Appearances can be deceiving. Before you can make a judgment about something's value or worth, you need to take the time to investigate it fully. Take a deeper, closer look.True worth and value aren't always obvious when we only look at the surface. We cannot become immersed in the way something or someone looks like, we need to try and look at people and try to see the real them and get to know their story before we make assumptions.
