There are many different type of cancers, there are also many different types of treatments. One of the most known types of treatments would be chemotherapy. Chemotherapy can be used for a wide range of different types of cancers and diseases, and each of the different types of cancers or diseases require a different group, and sometimes order, of chemicals to properly treat the cancer or disease. These chemicals include: Alkylating agents, Antimetabolites, Anthracyclines, Topoisomerase inhibitors, mitotic inhibitors, corticosteroids, and more. Each of these drugs previously listed have its own cancer type(s) or disease(s) that it can assist in treating. Some of these cancers include: Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin disease, multiple
These symptoms of numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness frequently prevent the patient from performing their everyday activities, due to impaired ability to function in their environment. Some patients may lose their ability to continue working if they have a job that requires the use of their hands for fine motor movement. If a patient is unable to perform their everyday responsibilities, such as their occupation, it can lead them to experience economic burdens. These problems will only continue to progress further as they complete the rest of their treatment of cancer without bringing in any income.
Due to cancer including over 100 different diseases it can cause almost any type of symptom through both direct and indirect mechanisms. The American Cancer Society lists the following as general symptoms that if persist for a long period of time and worsen, might be indicative of the presence of cancer, unexplained weight loss, fever, fatigue, pain and skin changes such as itching, excessive hair growth, hyperpigmentation, jaundice and reddened skin. Chronic fatigue- being tired, without the need for sleep. It’s physical and mental exhaustion, and it stops those who suffer from it from being able to enjoy daily life.
The process of radiation therapy uses small amounts of very high-energy radiation to destroy the cancerous cells, making them unable to reproduce. "About 60% of all patients with cancer receive radiation therapy for curative intent, tumor control, or palliation of
There are many different types of chemotheraputic drugs. Not all of them will cause hair loss, vomiting and
Leukemia most common treatments are: Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, and Bone marrow transplantation, and then there is also Biological therapy. In chemotherapy, patients take one or more anticancer drugs by mouth or, intravenously through IV therapy. In some cases, doctors need to inject the drugs directly into the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Chemo can cause side effects, like losing your hair, nausea, fatigue, or easy bruising, depending on the drug. The side effects usually go away progressively between treatments or after treatments stop.
Therefore, dose and duration of treatment is limited, which in turn limits the amount of normal and tumor cell death. A second mechanism is the suppression of cancer cells for variable periods of time without cell death. This mechanism is referred to as remission. Unfortunately, the cancer can return at any time, and it is sometimes stronger. Here another limitation is introduced. Some tumor cells can develop resistance to a particular chemical agent, or several chemical agents, limiting the types of chemotherapeutic agents available for effective use. The last mechanism is cell differentiation, which helps the immune system learn to recognize and fight tumor cells (1).

Cancer takes a toll on the body. Fatigue is extreme tiredness and drowsiness, and is caused by activities that require an abundant amount of energy to participate in and to heal from. In this case, chemotherapy is an extremely tiring treatment,

The drugs will be taken in either by mouth or by IV. The treatment plan should last about a month for our patient. There will be many side effects from the chemotherapy. Possible side effects include hair loss, nausea and vomiting, and increased risk for infection or bleeding in the short term, as well as other potential health problems later (Ben-Joseph, 2014). Doctors will keep record of side effects in order to treat patient with extra care if needed.
Chemotherapy is given in cycles a treatment period followed by a recovery period, then another treatment period and so on. The drug enters the blood stream and destroys leukemia cells throughout the body. However, they cannot reach the brain and spinal cord, because of a protective network of blood vessels that keep foreign substances from entering the central nervous system. In certain cases doctors need to inject the drug directly into the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. (Health a to z, 20)
