Sidney Crosby the Next Great One Sidney is Crosby is a phenomenal hockey player currently playing in the NHL. Many people debate on him being the next Great One, due to multiple aspects of his talent. Sidney
Crosby, being the talented player he is, many people compare him to Wayne Gretzky who is the best known hockey player in history. Since hockey has evolved from when Wayne Gretzky was on top, it makes it difficult to compare him to Sidney Crosby. But, since the evolution of hockey has occurred, this means that Sidney Crosby is better overall, speed wise, acceleration, agility, and endurance. Since Crosby has entered the NHL in the 2005-06 Season, he has managed to score 266 goals, 477 assists, for a combined total of 743

Which further excelled Crosby, and helped him attain one of the greatest achievements in hockey, being drafted 1st overall in the
2005 NHL Entry Draft (Shattuk-Saint Mary’s NHL Draft Picks). With Crosby becoming the greatest hockey player in the world, he has been able to achieve many prestigious awards. Including the greatest award one is able to attain in hockey,
Lord Stanley’s Cup, in the 2008-09 Season. Crosby was then the youngest captain to ever win the Stanley Cup in NHL history. Other great achievement’s Crosby has attained is the Art Ross trophy, which is awarded to the player with the most scoring points in a season. Another award he won that same season, in the 2006-07 season, was the Hart Trophy (Fitzpatrick). The final and most likely greatest achievement Crosby has made, is being the second youngest captain in NHL history. He did hold the reign of youngest Captain for 6 years until, Gabriel Landeskog was named captain for the Colorado Avalanche. Landeskog was only 11 days younger than Crosby when named, but he still took the title of youngest captain in NHL history (Sadowski). These achievements have supported reasons why Crosby is better than Gretzky. With all the evidence supporting Crosby’s case proves that Crosby is overall a better and a stronger player than Gretzky. Since this is accurate and supported through evidence, Crosby can now be referred to the Great One. Since Crosby is still young he is
When he was drafted in the NHL, he made a big impact on the team because he didn’t do really good when he first starting playing for them. Carey also goes to the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation to surprise kids when they
On May 9th 1965 a leader was born, and that leader was Steve Yzerman. Yzerman was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia. He began skating when he was a mere 3 years old, but was still a little too young to play organized hockey with his older brother Mike, who was two years older. At age 5 Yzerman started playing organized ice hockey, but really couldn’t skate all that well. In fact, his first gino (goal) was scored because he had slipped up in front of the adversaries net and an opposing defenseman bounced the puck off a teammate. Since Yzerman was the closest to the puck, he was given credit for the goal. This was certainly not a foundation suitable for a legendary career.
During the summer of 1979, Doug Sulliman was part of a bumper crop of future NHLers chosen in the opening round of the league’s annual entry draft. Included were the likes of Mike Gartner, Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque, Paul Reinhart and Michel Goulet.
He shoots he scores! The history of hockey has changed over time. There are many good players that wouldn't be as good if these changes wouldn't have changed.
A rookie NHL All-Star, the number one overall pick, an 18 year old from Arizona, and the future of the NHL, number 34 of the Toronto Maple Leafs Auston Matthews is fifth overall in total goals this season. Auston Matthews was born in San Ramon, California on September 17, 1997 and at two months old, moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. To start, his Uncle had season tickets to then, Phoenix Coyotes games, now Arizona Coyotes, where Auston went to his first hockey game when he was three years old and fell in love with the sport. He first started hockey at age five and was once better at baseball than he was at hockey. He was good baseball because he had good eye-hand coordination and hitting was his strength. Anyhow, there weren't
For Werenski, his career began at a young age when he started to play hockey at the age of 4. As he got older and his play developed, he was on Belle Tire and had 8 goals and 20 assists in only 35 games and that is only the beginning (Powers). He later went on and won a national championship with Belle Tire in 2011
Every sport in the world has had its greats or its greatest player. In the game of ice hockey the greatest player who has ever played the game is Wayne Gretzky. There has been other greats in the game but none have compared to Wayne Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky should be remembered as the greatest hockey player of all time.
Another hockey great, who was purely Canadian, and proved his worth in the game of hockey, is the amazing Rocket Richard. He was known for his excellence, but was also just as well known for his great spirit and love for the game. He, as well as Gretzky, was given the honour of being among the best in the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1955, Richard was, without thought, suspended from the league, Canada, especially Montrealers, went into complete uproar, inducing numerous death threats upon the president Clarence Campbell, as well as what has been called the worst riot in Canadian sports history. This example really shows how dedicated Canadians are when backing up their own players, the ones they know are the best.
Wayne Gretzky wasn’t just one of the best hockey players of all time, he was also a hero to many around the world. He inspired many people by giving them the opportunity to play and learn about hockey and by being one of the best hockey players in the world, as well as a good role model. Gretzky even said the commonly known phrase “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” (Gretzky). Also, thousands of children around the world look up to him as their hero. He wasn’t as fast as some players but his skills are what made him better than others. As Wayne developed these skills, he became widely known as the greatest hockey player in the world. As he played in the NHL he played for 3 different teams.
Maurice Richard’s historical significance in Canada was due to his importance as a hockey player in Montreal from 1942 to 1960. This was because hockey is “closer to a religion than a simple sporting pastime” in Canada. It was “a unifying force” in a nation where one state wanted to separate from the rest of Canada. Nevertheless hockey has had a major impact on the social, economic, cultural and political realms of Canada. For example: in the 2014 winter Olympics, bars across the country remained open past their legal closing times for the gold medal game. Maurice was “credited with raising the National Hockey League to major sport status”, he simply “sold the game” to French Canadians post great depression. He stopped the National Hockey league
To begin Gordie Howe had made a name for himself it’s called the Gordie Howe. “The Gordie Howe is a goal, assist, and a fight all in one game.” After Gordie Howe had done that a lot of NHL players wanted to attempt to try this. Also kids thought that was cool because no NHL player has ever done that. After that was done some NHL players have done it not once but twice. Another example is Gordie “ Won the Art Ross 1951-54 and in 1957 as the top scorer and 1952-53 1957-58 and 1960 and 63. All won in his seasons of hockey.” Gordie was such a hard worker he was still old but he still able to accomplished. Also, other people try to beat him he never gave up. Lastly Gordie Howe struggle “Howe had dyslexic which is having trouble learning. Was teased for his struggles.” Gordie Howe was often bullied or teased as a kid because of dyslexic nobody really knew what he was struggle with. Even though Gordie Howe had some of the biggest accomplishments doesn't mean you're always perfect. At the last breath of Gordie Howe was known for one
Vladimir is better when he is on offense because he knows how to shoot the puck into the goal fast and smooth. He shoots left handed and most people are right handed so when he shoots it is at a different angle than when people shoot right handed.Overall, in the seasons he has played for KHL and NHL he has scored 382 points including the points he got in the play offs. As it came to 2015 Tarasenko recorded his first hat tricks against the Dallas Stars and got another one in the year 2016 against Tampa Bay Lightning.
Out of this list, I am intrigued by defenseman Mark Barberio, a Montreal-native. He is a quick skater for his big frame and has excellent vision offensively. He has been able to put up a lot of points in his junior career with the Moncton Wildcats (168 points in 261 games) and in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch (134 points in 215 games). He hasn't been able to bring that production to the NHL level, but at 25 years old, he remains an interesting depth
Before the NHL even came calling, the 36-year old winger had to withstand the test of time and determination.
He then returned to Quebec for a second year in the QMJHL, scoring 66 goals and he was best young prospect in the world. Across North America Crosby earned similarities to some of
