CASA are everyday citizens, who judges appoint to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who have been, removed from their homes due to parental abuse and neglect. They stand up for these children and change their lives. CASA volunteers have helped more than two million children find safe, permanent homes. The National CASA association is a network of 955 programs that are recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and other settings. The paper will focus on the laws, barriers that might prevent families from seeking out an organization such as CASA. They can also seek out the services of a human service professional to help them develop family goals and individual plans. When looking at my philosophy of helping, it has not change I still want to extend a hand to those that express the need for help. I believe in putting forth one hundred percent in whatever I do. I always make it a point to remember that I was one of those person’s that needed a helping hand along the journey of life, at one time or another and still do, I have always help others all my life and continue until this day. I come from the era where “it takes a village” (1996, Hilary Clinton), so helping, and giving, is one of my ways of giving back to the village and paying it forward. It is important for society to protect those that cannot protect themselves from the elements of the adult world. The human services professional must encourage and cultivate the growth of children that are in need of healing from being abused emotional and physically. In order for a child, not to feel the hands of abuse we must develop, tweak and fine tune what helps make a healthy family. For me it is the most important key point of being a human service professional. If I could give anything to the families I work with I would give them, a family mission statement, and it would be one that my family lives by, “A family that prays together stays together”, this saying reintegrate unity amongst the family.
