Silhouette 1. James doesn’t quite get it. He’s not confident in it. Ocean has been explaining his idea for some time. “It’s easy, James,” said Ocean James focuses on Plato’s hands, which are going beserk. Like a man on fire waving them about, James thinks. Ocean is describing something about the screen. He is very intelligent. James would like to be bright like Ocean, but he is in lazy mood today and does not want to think too hard today. James looks down at his feet. He thinks they smell and he needs a shower. “You’re not listening,” says Ocean “Well, I am,” replied James James still does not get what Ocean is on about; perhaps he will get Harry to explain it to him later. 2. Gabriel is writing. He has been writing ever since James can remember “What …show more content…
“All this talk about a ‘source’,” says Gabriel. “If Ocean interrupts my work, we may have to do something about him.” “Like what?” James asked timidly 6. Ocean is pacing again. He is perturbed. “What’s the matter?” asks James “I must find the source,” says Ocean. “You’re not back onto that again, are you?” Gabriel tells Ocean to sit still and stop sidetracking him. He looks meaningfully at James, who avoids eye contact. Ocean is still upset. James patiently explains that maybe they can find the source later. “Wait till the film is finished,” he insists. 7. James feels sick. He sits in silence and tries to tune out the scratching of Gabriel’s pen. It makes James feel sick. Gabriel has begun to write very fast now. The stench hangs heavily over the room. It oozes out from the black cavity under the screen where they stored the body. It swirls and fills Frank’s lungs until Frank feels that he may choke. Eventually Gabriel looks up. “It had to be done,” he says. “Yes,” says James, “it had to be done,” “He was mad,” says Gabriel “Yes,” says James, “and the poems are important.” Harry sits straight and silent. Gabriel smirks and returns to his
Last season, James even got suspended from SUR for a bit, and Lisa Vanderpump made it clear that she wants him to get his act together. One fan asked James about these rumors on Twitter and he responded to them. The fan said, "Also, word on the street is that James Kennedy & Lala Kent won't be back for season 5 of #PumpRules thoughts." James Kennedy replied saying, "Word on what street? I haven't heard of this street." This must be his way of saying that this is not true and that he will be back again next
In Lauren Kates, Fallen, one vivacious character named Luce, a girl who grew up in a un-prosperity town is transferred to a different kind of school has strong internal conflict with herself throughout the book. Luce finds her life to be toil and is encountered by these mystical things called “Shadows”. Although she tries to shirk them and is the only one who see them, she denies the fact that they are there and is haunted by them from time to time and is the main faction to her life.
In the novel Unbroken written by Laura Hillenbrand, the character Louie displays many important character traits. The most important trait displayed in this character is positivity. The author shows the reader these traits in several ways. First, the author shows us by what the character says. Louis said ‘ “ If I have any strength left from the heat, I'll beat Bright and give Lash the scare of his life.’ (25). Second, the author shows us by what the character does. Louie reassured Mac that the squadron would come for them, that they were likely to be found that night, at the latest the next day. Another way the author shows the reader is by revealing what another character says about my character. For instance, Phil said ‘ “ If there was one
To start off, Darrel Curtis is definitely another hero in the book. Darrel has always been there for both Ponyboy and Sodapop. Although Darry could have been hurt many different times, it didn’t stop him from always being there for them. In the text this can be shown on page 142 when it says, “Then Darry said, ‘I’ll take on anyone.’ He stood there broad-shouldered, his muscles taut under his T-shirt and his eyes glittering like ice.”
Darry Curtis is one of the most heroic characters in the book The Outsiders because he gave his life away to support his family. Darry could’ve had the opportunity to go to college and have a successful life, but instead he wanted to take care of his younger brothers. A quote that shows this is, “He thought Darry worked too hard anyway. I did, too. Darry didn’t deserve to work like an old man when he was only twenty”(16).
Suddenly, Franco’s nasal cavities were filled with a whiff of decaying flesh. This didn’t distract Franco. Franco only noticed his composition of a masterpiece, not the decomposition. However, he realized that it was this stench that invited prying cats, the neighbours, to notify the police of an out of the ordinary occurrence in apartment 25B.
During his stay in Louisville, James learns a lot about what he wants to be through what he saw and what he experienced. Once he returned home, James states that “Deep inside I knew that my old friend Chicken Man back in Louisville was right. I wasn’t any smarter, or any wiser, or any bolder than the cats on the corner, and if I chose that life I would end up on the corner.” (McBride 161). This reveals that James took the lessons he was taught by those in Louisville to heart, and they had a real effect on him. This is significant because without
James is desperate to be cool so he hangs out with K-Bones. Once Kris comes over, James is mad about him having to run away from the Snakes gang while Isaac is being dragged and they are being shot at. James responds to Kris by saying “He could have been killed” and Kris responds “Those Snakes couldn’t even hit a brick wall if they had a cannon. When we get a gun…”. When Kris said this James knew that this gang wasn’t for him and he was frustrated.
James’ insecurities brought him loneliness, often got him into trouble, and in some cases he did not feel like a human being (93). His insecurities no just caused him to question his mother and her race, but also caused him to question himself (12-13). As he did not know where he fit in society, he frequently felt alone and without any insight of companionship. Therefore, James confusion due to his identity, social issues and necessity of companionship, led him to create an imaginary world where he locked himself in the bathroom and talked to the boy in the
David Foster Wallace wants the reader to realize that the most important and the most obvious realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about. Seeing what’s right in front of you can be the most difficult thing because you are always looking further and not opening your eyes to see the most obvious parts of life. Wallace is additionally trying to get the reader to tap into the real meaning of life as well as trying to move people away from their “default setting”. The opening of this speech starts out with the story of wise fish and the two young fish. After being asked about the water by the older fish, the two younger fish realize that they don’t know what water is. Fish don’t know water exists until beached;
James knows he is not real, but dedicates his life to making people believe he is. When he tells Nick “I didn’t want you to think I was just some nobody” (73). He means: believe what I tell you about me, so I can feel better and hopefully become who I say I am. There is desperation in his words
James appears to be using limited cross-checking behaviours. Self-correction behaviour is nil, at least in this instance. Evidence shows he is using mostly meaning and visual cues and not drawing on structural cues. As a result of not utilising all the sources of information afforded by the text his understanding and comprehension of the text is quite limited and there is no evidence he has really connected with the text. In recent years there has been much research on reading
"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise."
For example, the text says” I hold Isaac’s hand as we cross the street.” Just a small action like that proves that James doesn’t want Isaac to be in danger or, in hazards of going out, even though being there is dangerous already. Now, I think James has more care for his brother, seeing that he put himself and Isaac at risk. He probably knew that this would be dangerous from the start, but still did it because he wants to be cool. I think James is also regretting his decision of being attractive , and wishing that he just followed the rules and stayed home with
They have already taken to speaking near the ocean on multiple occasions, as indicated by the phrase “depending on the hour,” even though the ocean only ever tells the speaker to go away, or, as far as readers know, replies with nothing (2). The second piece asks for legitimate guidance. The speaker wants to find their purpose, and might just be thinking out loud, without expecting a response from the ocean, since there is no mention of intentionally dialoguing with the
